A Sydney, Australia couple have been banned from owning pets after they posted a video to the popular online Chinese social media site Weibo showing them beating their cowering puppy with a slipper. Ms. Chen and Mr. Deng claimed they accidentally uploaded the disturbing video.

According to the Daily Mail, the RSPCA  charged the couple with animal cruelty after viewing the video which showed the frightened dog crouched on the floor in the couple’s apartment being hit with the slipper repeatedly.

“One offender recorded and uploaded the video of the punishment inflicted on the puppy, the other offender was striking the puppy twice on the head and seven times on the body while restraining it,” the presiding judge stated at the couple’s trial. “Each blow you can hear a loud thus, it is clear the animal is in a highly distressed state. Animals can’t speak up for themselves when cruelty is inflicted it is often done in private.”

The couple stated the video had only been intended to share with a family member and contended they were disciplining their puppy.  They did plead guilty and were each fined $600 and ordered to pay the RSPCA costs of $755.42. Both Chen and Deng have been banned from owning or caring for any pets for one year.

The couple filed an appeal and lost. The puppy is expected to be made available for adoption.

  1. Just another instance of Chinese people having no compassion for any animal. The sentence wasn’t strong enough and they don’t show any remorse.

  2. GOOD !!!!! Glad this lucky Puppy will be given a chance to have Loving and Caring Family Members!!! It is one of the Lucky one’s … These PUKES should have been banned for LIFE of Animal Ownership!!!

  3. Should be a video of someone beating them for the pain this dog went through. Yeah, show a video of yourself beating your pup, very smart people.

  4. I am so thankful they have been caught but I believe they should be banned for life on animals. And they should have been find a lot more. PS is the dog up for adoption

  5. Chinese pukes! They have no compassion for anything!!!!! I hope an animal lover finds you and kicks the life out of both of you!! You don’t deserve the air you’re breathing!!!!

  6. Well we can’t expect anything better from the Chineseno matter where they live. As you can see our animal cruelty laws need toughening up too, but we are working on them. I agree the penalties and punishment in this case falls far short of what it should be to make any impact on these perpetrators as well as the general public. I’m thankful at least that the precious puppy was confiscated and will find his/her way to aloving furever home that they’re deserving of.
