An Illinois couple was arrested for leaving their dog outside on a porch in the bitter cold – the dog was unable to survive the frigid weather and perished. According to WGN 9 News, 21-year-old Monica Alanas and 26-year-old Jonathan Flores-Barona are facing charges of animal cruelty for leaving the young Shih Tzu to die on the porch of a home in Northlake.
The dog’s untimely demise happened after a fight between the married couple – according to reports, Alanas left her home and went to spend the night at her parents’ Northlake residence. The husband allegedly told her that he would leave her clothes, and the dog, on the home’s front porch. WGN 9 reported that the clothes were brought inside of the home, but the dog, who was inside of a crate, was left outside in 10-degree weather.
By the time that the dog was found the next morning, it was too late – the cold had taken its deadly toll. This dog’s death is just one of many as extreme cold continues to grip much of the nation.
The couple is due in court on February 20.
