In Clayton County, Georgia, K9 Officer Odin was stabbed twice in the neck and jaw on Sunday while subduing a man alleged to have murdered his live-in girlfriend. Randy Young, 31, was arrested after police responded to reports of shots having been fired on the 1000 block of Garden Walk Boulevard.

According to AJC News, when Clayton County police officers arrived with the Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services, a woman was found dead lying on the floor with multiple bullet wounds. The incident was the culmination of a domestic argument, and authorities stated the victim had entered the apartment with her relatives to pick up her belongings after the couple had broken off their relationship.

Young fired his gun at the woman – killing her and then took off by foot. Hours later, the suspect was located and stabbed Odin during his apprehension.

“Please keep K-9 Odin and Ofc. Baker in your thoughts and prayers. K-9 Odin was stabbed while assisting with apprehending murder suspect Randy Young this afternoon. K-9 Odin is now out of surgery and will have to spend some time in the hospital to recover from his injuries,” the Clayton County PD tweeted Sunday evening.

The good news is K-9 Odin’s condition is stable and he is expected to recover.

Young has been charged with malice murder, felony obstruction, aggravated assault, cruelty to animals and injury to a police dog. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Get well Odin – everyone is wishing you a speedy recovery.

  1. I hope they throw Randy Young in jail and lose the key. He is a murderer and doesn’t need to be on the streets. Prayers for K-9 Odin and his handler, Officer Baker, thank you for putting your lives on the line to protect and serve.

  2. Yes, the “good news” is that this dog will go back to being hanged, kicked, helicoptered on the “training” field, in ongoing “training” for the rest of his working career, and then isolated in a kennel in the handler’s back yard (solitary confinement is part of the “training” protocol – after all, what’s worse to a dog than being tortured by his handler? – being left all alone with nothing to do).

It is high time that the lid is blown off this institutionalized cruelty. It sends the message that while it’s not OK for a suspect to hurt the dog, it’s PEACHY KEEN if the handlers do it.

    • Unfortunately, Sue, you’re correct. Too bad others have their blinders securely affixed. People should look into all the early deaths of police K9s and see their lifelong injury reports, the ones that have nothing to do with their work in the community. Then they need to wonder why all those injuries and early deaths happen. Many are cases where death is preferable to “life.” But the faithful cannot look into it honestly because, again, those comfy blinders.

  3. If the police are going to have Animals and Dogs specifically working with police and military, they need to give them bullet proof vests or protective gear to wear. They are far too vulnerable. I send Officer Odin
much light and mojo for a fast and complete recovery

    • Melissa,
Bullet proof vests only serve to make the dogs hotter, and many K9’s have already died, having been left to bake to death in the heat, in the police cars.

Considering that their daily lives consist of a combination of solitary confinement followed by torture on the training field, perhaps suggest a ‘neck guard’ to wear, so they don’t strangle, and asphyxiate over and over again, when their handlers “apply the corrections” (euphemisms courtesy of the lying perpetrators).
