A name has not yet been released, but authorities in Wayne County, North Carolina, have stated that charges are expected in an animal cruelty case involving a pregnant pit bull who was found frozen in a dog house that was abandoned alongside a road.
According to WRAL News, authorities have indicated that the owner of the dog, a brown, pregnant pit bull mix, has been identified and charges are pending. The heartbreaking discovery was made on Monday along Airport Road in Pikeville.
Authorities were alerted to the cruel situation by multiple people who reported seeing a frozen, pregnant dog in an igloo-style doghouse. It is suspected that the dog was abandoned on Sunday night, in the midst of a deep freeze.
