The body of a dog, who was allegedly starved and beaten by his owners, was removed from a residence in Swanton, Virginia, on Thursday. According to WCAX News, the pit bull mix, named Roscoe, was allegedly abused and neglected by 26-year-old Kevin Cosgrove and 24-year-old Brittany Weston – the pair are said to be “on the run” from authorities.
Roscoe was subjected to more than just cruel neglect – after being locked away for weeks in a bedroom of the couple’s residence, without access to food, the skeletal dog was bludgeoned in the head. It was the beating which actually claimed his life.
Residents in the area, devastated by Roscoe’s sorrowful situation, raised funds to have him cremated, but those funds will be donated to an area animal shelter instead because a funeral home volunteered to cremate Roscoe for free. John Workman, the owner of AW Rich Funeral Home and Island Memorial Pet Loss Services, explained to WCAX News, “To me, our pets are our family. They are our babies that never grow up. And Roscoe didn’t get the attention he deserved in life. And he’s certainly going to get the attention he deserves in his passing.”
Cosgrove and Weston are facing animal felony animal cruelty charges.
