Bailey was left in the lobby of Brooklyn’s New York City Animal Care Center. His owner couldn’t be bothered to leave any information about him – how old, what he ate, did he have a favorite toy? When the staff veterinarians examined him, they found he had a heart murmur and a bleeding mass on his scrotum which was cauterized to stop the bleeding.

Someone in the shelter noticed Bailey’s calm energy and high tolerance; they made this sweet senior a “Counter Conditioning Helper Dog” for manageable reactivity. Sadly, however even that job for Bailey has come to an end – he is on the list to be humanely euthanized Tuesday afternoon.

A volunteer writes:

“I’ve walked Bailey a bunch now and it’s just heartbreaking that someone could leave this sweet older gentleman in the lobby. He was quite nervous when he first came, but he’s opened up and seems to like his volunteers. He is always easy to handle, always keeps his cage clean, loves to get snacks and go for his walks and is so cute!! He’s a bit chunky, low to the ground and has an infectious smile. Bailey does need some follow up medical care for a heart murmur and a lump on his scrotum that is bleeding.”

  1. Why won’t you help him see if there’s a vet who will donate his time at least try before you murder this poor soul yes he does have a soul prayers for sweet Bailey

  2. Where are the fosters for a wonderful dog like this, or even and adopter? Please, do not let this dog die. Such a good boy and has all positive attributes that you want in a dog.He is a senior, but he has many wonderful years left and will be so devoted to you and your family. Go see him, take him for a walk, play and pet him and he will make you melt. Rescues, please save Bailey.

  3. Brooklyn Animal ‘Care’ Central is part of NYCACC which is the prime example of what no shelter should ever be. The reputation of any place associated with NYCACC is nothing more than a dump which gives no animal a chance – Baily was euthanized as quickly as possible – being a senior dog they are considered disposable objects and are given no chance to get a home – some animals (ie. pit bulls) are given as little as 18 hours before being murdered by uncaring staff – this place is despicable and needs a complete overhaul – these animals deserve much better. Bailey never had a chance being thrown away like trash.
