Authorities recommend charges against 8-year-old boy for torturing puppy

In Lawton, Oklahoma, the Lawton Animal Welfare agency is recommending charges be pressed against the 8-year-old boy caught on surveillance video torturing a six-month-old dachshund puppy last week.

The puppy’s owner, David Winbush and his family had been out to dinner, and when they arrived home could not find their Dachshund pup named Sprocket in their backyard where he had been left. It was then Winbush checked his surveillance camera. Video showed the 8-year-old boy grabbing Sprocket and then carrying the four-pound puppy to the backyard hitting the defenseless animal repeatedly. He then threw the puppy around, beating and kicking it at the same time on four separate occasions.

“He comes back with a baseball bat for the final time and then just strolls out of the driveway like nothing ever happened,” Winbush told news media.

According to AbcNews, the child could be charged with animal cruelty. Russell Anderson, with Lawton Animal Welfare, was shocked at the repetitive beating the 8-year-old inflicted upon Sprocket; specifically punching, tossing into the air and then hiding the puppy under a shed with a piece of concrete over it so Sprocket couldn’t move or try to escape.

Will Sprocket ever recover from this kind of abuse and cruelty remains unknown. The puppy has already undergone one operation and is expected to have followup surgery early next week. The puppy’s owner, David Winbush feels his cherished puppy will always act like an abused child and become very passive. Sprocket’s physical repercussions of the abuse could be a painful factor later in life for the dog.

Many thanks to the Neel Veterinary Hospital, who is covering the puppy’s surgical expenses to repair his fractured femur, tibia and fibula; so much for a puppy just beginning his life.

“We wanted to give a quick update on Sprocket. He is doing very well! He had surgery to repair one of his back legs on Wednesday and is healing from that in our ICU. Since he is a curious puppy and likes to lick his incision area, he is now wearing a cute little cone to prevent him from licking it,” the hospital posted on their Facebook page.

Check out Sprocket’s video:

Since he is a curious puppy and likes to lick his incision area, he is now wearing a cute little cone to prevent him from licking it. He loves to get the attention of our staff by barking a few times until someone gives him a hug – then he gets comfy in his bed for nap time. He’ll have surgery on his other leg soon and after a few days of healing, he’ll be on his way back home! Thank you to everyone who has commented and messaged us wishing Sprocket well! We are excited to see his progress and we are all so glad to see his happy puppy attitude shine through!

My suggestion as to what to do with that little monster will be deleted. The little puke learned that behavior somewhere. No normal 8-year-old wakes up one morning, and decides to go torture a puppy! Take a close look at the parents.
I’m sure the pupp’s owners will never leave their pets unattended, ever again.

You’d be surprised. Some kids are angry in their soul it seems like. I think this family never observed their childs behavior or refused to acknowledge. It’s incredibly disturbing. He can never be trusted again around any animal.

The parents of this kid need to be paying for the vet bills incurred from the damage their evil spawn did to this poor little puppy. If an 8 year old is capable of being this heartless and cruel, then I fear there is NO hope for any kind of rehabilitation for him. This is a serial killer in the making and we will be seeing him in the future killing humans. Keeping Sprocket in our prayers for a full recovery and may he life a happy, loved life.

I agree this kid is a serial killer in the making. Starting with animals is how it starts. Being punished is not good enough. Lock this kid up in an institution.

Sorry to be so blunt but the little bastard needs to be locked up for the rest of its life. That’s a future sociopath and there is no cure for it. The little bastard learned it from somewhere. It isn’t as important to know where he learned it; it’s important to kero that maggot away from others. He learned it and now it’s inbred in its demenor. It’s not going away so lock the little bastard up.

Our Dixie was starved and abused before we got her at 10 months old. She was always shy and mistrustful…but she loved us. A couple of the other dogs we had and have were mistreated but they adapted. The big factor is never, never, never leave your dogs unattended outside..not even for 2 minutes. The world is full of crazy, cruel people of all ages. And keep your cats inside always.

The parents of this child should pay all expenses., To the very last penny!!!
If not now, should be a court order for them to pay to the penny every expense this innocent pup has to endure and endured from their child. Anyway where were the parents?? This child needs superior supervision.
This couldn’t be his first time torturing an animal, seems like it’s a natural for him,!!
Need a court order for some excellent behavioral ,Evaluation!

I just want to snuggle this poor furbaby & reassure him the world is OK & he will be OK (inspite of the horrors he has been through)…… I hope this precious little treasure recovers fully and regains his trust in people.

Precious treasure Sprocket, I am sorry humans failed you so terribly…… Very glad you are getting the veterinary care you needed.

This useless shitbag POS who abused you should be locked up forever (& lose the keys please). He is a serial killer in “formation”…… His next victim(s) could easily be people….. He should only leave prison in a pine box….. He has a reserved spot in Hell where he will burn forever for his cruelty……. hope he gets there ASAP after dying alone, afraid, in horrible pain (& worst of all) unloved………

I think his parents should pay ALL the veterinary costs and be locked up as well because they should bear responsibility for their disgusting son……

I would MAKE SURE ALL MY NEIGHBORS KNEW WHAT HE DID. Once everyone in the neighborhood knows and his schoolmates know he won’t have ANY FRIENDS.Make his PARENTS PAY ALL VET BILLS.

I live in the UK and I cannot believe what this 8 year old has done, he learnt this behaviour somewhere, it’s not normal. He needs dealing with and more importantly this poor little traumatised dog needs to be placed in a home where he will be cared for and not beaten to within an inch of his life.

He needs to have serious repercussions for that behavior. He’s a budding little psychopath.

And, again, most people don’t know this, because the information is deliberately hidden from them (I found that out 36 years ago), but vaccines do many different kinds of damage, hundreds of different effects, from mild to severe (including autoimmunity, cancer, and death). A certain number of kids are affected with encephalopathy, and children these days are receiving 7 times as many injections of animal (including worms) and human DNA, formaldehyde, antifreeze, MSG, etc. than I did.
