Another dog ‘Titan’ killed just hours after leaving the shelter

Recently, a public protest was held in front of the Orange County Animal Shelter in California protesting the nationwide “Clear the Shelter” event.  It was due to a shelter clearing event that a dog named Valerie/Cargo met her demise just weeks after she was adopted from. Her emaciated, tortured, near dead body was found on the streets of Los Angeles.

Now another case, like Valerie’s is also being addressed. A dog named Titan, who was chipped and adopted from Garland County  Animal Services in Texas on May 25, 2018 was found shot to death the very next day. Tragically, when he was found, he was still wearing the lead from the shelter around his neck.  It was determined he was killed sometime between 3:00 a.m. and noon on May 26, 2018 and had been shot three times.

Titan’s dead body was found on Dowdy Ferry Road by a group known as Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission. There is a degree of mystery and notoriety surrounding Dowdy Ferry Road in southeast Dallas, Texas.  In the last three years they have found over 400 dead animals on that road, including Titan.

Jeremy Boss, founder of the Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission and his team, are out there every day and have cameras set up trying to catch the person(s) who is killing all these animals and dumping them there. When Jeremy found Titan’s body, they called 311 and were told that someone would come out and collect the dog within 24 hours. Unfortunately, that action would not initiate an investigation, so he called 911 as well. The Dallas police assigned the case to the local SPCA.

Jeremy and his crew went to Garland County Animal Services to try to find clues as to who adopted Titan.  There were signs posted saying the adoption area was under camera surveillance. Apparently, the cameras weren’t working so they didn’t get a picture of the person who adopted Titan. Another twist in the case is, whoever adopted Titan called the chip company and immediately changed all the information to a fake name and address. The only thing the shelter had to go on was a driver’s license. It too, may have been fake.

There are some questions and concerns as to why a felony criminal offense would be outsourced by the Dallas Police Department to a private organization like the SPCA.  The SPCA is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act, so it is not known how many complaints they’ve received; how many they’ve investigated and how many they’ve prosecuted. Because of this, there is no idea how much animal abuse is occurring in Dallas, Texas. Also, since the SPCA is a private organization, they do not have to answer to anyone within the local government and no one to answer to as to why an arrest has not been made.

If the Dallas PD had taken Titan’s case, it may have led them to Titan’s killer, and that person may also be responsible for other acts of violence. Because of this, many people are advocating for the implementation of an Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit to the Dallas PD. It would be the first of its kind.

There are many varying opinions on what may have happened to Titan. Some think anti pit bull groups may be to blame; adopting pits and then killing them as some twisted way to annihilate the breed. There are many such hate groups on Facebook who encourage the destruction of pit bulls. Other people think it may be dog fighters, who after getting Titan realized he would not serve their purpose and therefore killed him. Whatever person(s) did this, they must be caught and held accountable for such a cruel and calculated act of adopting a dog from a shelter for the sheer purpose of killing it.

Imagine this situation through Titan’s eyes. The joy he felt leaving the shelter, thinking he was finally on the way to his forever home and that joy soon turning to fear and horror when he realized he was going to be killed. There has to be a better way of protecting shelter pets and keeping them out of the hands of abusers. Many shelters claim they do not have the resources to do thorough background checks on adopters, but too many animals are handed over willingly to dangerous persons. Something has to change.

There is a Facebook page to honor Titan’s memory

And two active petitions seeking justice for Titan.

According to the SPCA there is an active animal cruelty case to find Titan’s killers, but they are not able to release much information due to it being an ongoing investigation. No details will be released until the investigation is complete.

In the news yesterday: Saddest eyes – dog has been surrendered to same shelter twice by two different families.

And what is this all about ??

This case should be referred to the FBI and Homeland Security! Fake credentials should be an immediate red flag! Some one is obviously not doing their duty! Get the newspapers involved!

Reward monies for reports of who did this, turning in dog fighting rings, drones on the entire road to see if there are any pit rings, cameras that work at the so-called shelters, absolute ID at adoptions, volunteers to go door to door on that road to see if anyone noticed anything unusual or knows anything. better police enforcement, special care when placing pits, newspapers notified with adds of reward and dangers, flyers handed out in the town. 400 dead animals on that road in the past 3 years is a crime. These sewer scum that are killing these innocents need some serious prosecution.

It is time to have volunteers check out homes BEFORE you can adopt a pitbull. I will volunteer my time to do it!! Drivers License address has to match your home address, with a utility bill in your name too.

Yet another TRAGEDY! Shelters MUST CHARGE enough of an adoption fee to discourage psychos from adopting. One shelter I know charges $100 to adopt a dog.

When adopting any pet, you must present photo id of a drivers license or something legal that shows who you say you are and where you live. Do you know how easy it is to get fake id’s in this country? Illegals do it all the time and have multiple cards for themselves. Especially in areas that are known for dog fighting there needs to be full proof id’s that all shelters must use when adopting out pets.Anti pit bull groups who intentionally adopt a dog only to kill it can also be apprehended if these secure forms of ID are used.Yes, you will have those that complain about that, but if it can save a dog from being adopted by someone who is going to use it for fighting or just kill it, then yes, it is worth it.Certain parts of this country are more prone to these killings than others, so that needs to be where law enforcement is involved in these cases. There are corridors in Texas where there are so many stray, abandoned dogs, that rescue groups can’t get to all of them. Where are the politicians, both parties, as well as Governor Abbott about resolving this ongoing problem once and for all? Those who live in Texas, demand this of your elected officials both locally and nationally.

Doesn’t work! Many people with ill intent send someone else in, then the dog’s passed on to person with bad intentions. That’s more or less how Valerie-Cargo got out on “Clear the Shelter” for $5.00. Indeed sad.

Stop stop stop “clear the shelters campaigns!!!!!!!!, God only knows what happens to these poor souls.better to be humanly euthanized and not be tortured or shot to death!RIP Titan you were horribly let down by humans!Hope these killers and their families die horrible deaths!!!

  10. Barkley's Mom says:

Maybe the shelters don’t have the resources to properly investigate prospective adopters but how about at least getting two forms of ID and having your camera’s in working condition? You are handing over an innocent life to someone who could be a predator for God’s sake! These poor dogs don’t stand much of a chance in Texas to begin with and the Shelter system is beginning to look like it’s part of the problem. Rest in peace Titan, I’m so sorry your life ended like this!

  12. Stephen L. Phillips says:

There are compassionate volunteers in rescue EVERYWHERE who would be willing to perform pre-adoptive home visits for shelter: WTF do they NOT REQUIRE THEM???
They don’t even CHECK ID’S for validity????
Jesus – they might just as well charge a fee and have a shooting range out back, for all the good those shelters are doing!
I am SO OUTRAGED at these senseless deaths!!!

  13. Pamela Garlisch says:

I’m sure that if the shelters advertised for volunteer help to vet the adopters, there would be people that would volunteer, even senior citizens could do that! It would give them a purpose to help! The clear the shelters is a great concept but more needs to be done to check out these people that adopt animals, it’s not just clearing the shelters but finding a good loving home for the animals too. RIP Titan. Dowdy Ferry is very well known as a dumping ground, even with the cameras, these dumpers are almost never caught.

  14. Denise Moore says:

Why is there not a better vetting system to save dogs why are they just throw away animals. How can this continue. My God this sickens me to the core, we have real despicable humans that do such horrific act of cruelty to animals, just imagine what they are doing to humans. Time to be more serious about animal abuse and cruelty. Police don’t really care or have the resources to pursue animal abuse heck they barely pursue child abuse, they seem to have more serious crimes. Animals will never have justice human sickness is rampant . So utterly sad

  15. Louisa Cornell says:

Clear the Shelter events are for the benefit of the board members and the people who run the shelters. They have nothing to do with helping animals. NOTHING! They are to make humans feel good. If even one pet dies because of these stupid events that is one pet too many. I hope the people who turned Titan over to his murderers hear his cries in their sleep until the day they die. If you are too damned lazy to do background checks and home checks and get vet references to adopt a pet then get out of the shelter business. There has to be a better way. I cannot begin to imagine the horror of Titan’s last moments. And those ignorant bitches who adopt pit bulls and murder them in order to try and eliminate the breed need to be arrested and prosecuted. Period. And their Facebook pages need to be taken down. Guess what? I hate most people. I happen to think a large portion of the human race needs to be eliminated. I do not go out and adopt humans in order to murder them. BAN CLEAR THE SHELTER EVENTS!! BAN THEM PERMANENTLY. And the HSUS needs to come up with a standard protocol for vetting adopters. NOW!

  16. Ann says:

get your shit together oc shelter or are you allowing Valerie Titen and coutless other dogs to be assaulted beaten shot OC SHELTERS ARE NO GOOD

  17. Michelle says:

A letter to the justice system ….
So when you find the retarded fuckers who did this please use them as target practice in the army instead of using animals,
Better yet use them as target practice for the police force that love to shoot innocent people in the United States and beyond.

  18. Bunny Peters says:

Pure Evil. There are reserved spaces in Hell waiting for them where they will burn forever for their cruelty…… (hope they all die ASAP: alone, in pain, in horrible circumstances and afraid…… the same as this innocent furbaby died)……

The terror and pain that this furbaby suffered makes me cry…… Precious treasure, your life was stolen from you (& your life mattered). I am absolutely heartbroken for your trauma & death. So sorry that humans failed you in every way possible……

Please look for MacKitty in Heaven and he will welcome you into his snuggle buddies group. You can RIP amongst his loving friends……..

  19. Denise Moore says:

Whoever adopted this dog allowed it to be murdered or murdered it themselves. Maybe the police should look into these cases there is probably very simple people involved
