Joseph James Deangelo, the man accused of being the Golden State Killer, responsible for multiple rapes and murders, has been described by his neighbors as an angry man who frequently yelled, and even threatened to kill a dog. According to ABC News, Deangelo, a former police officer, allegedly became irate over a neighbor’s barking dog and threatened to kill the pooch.
Grant Gorman, who lived close to Deangelo in the 1990s, told the news agency that the accused killer left a threatening voicemail on their home phone; it said, ‘If you don’t shut that dog up, I’ll deliver a load of death,'” Gorman told ABC News. “My dad immediately recognized the voice on the message as our next door neighbor, Joe.”
When Gorman’s dad confronted Deangelo about the call, the man allegedly did not deny leaving the message – and he made no apologies for threatening to kill the family’s dog. Other neighbors remember a man who was frequently angry and who could be heard screaming obscenities for all to hear.
The 72-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday at his Citrus Heights home in Sacramento County, California. He is accused of 12 murders, and 45 rapes. The arrest was made after the man’s DNA was linked to old evidence.
