On New Year’s Eve, an abandoned dog, left tied to a pole in Mount Baldy, California, was discovered. Nobody knows who cast the pit bull aside…or how long he had been left tied to the pole, alone and undoubtedly frightened.

But the four-year-old dog, dubbed Chance, was found and removed from the pole – he was taken to the Inland Valley Humane Society and SPCA where he was was treated for injuries consistent with neglect, and held until his mandatory stray hold expired. On January 9, Chance became available for adoption – with many people aware of his sad story, and local media coverage on NBC Los Angeles, hopes were high that a loving family would soon be secured.

Sadly, a fairy tale ending failed to happen – in fact, nobody came to visit Chance at the shelter. Adding insult to injury, Chance has also been diagnosed with cancer. This young dog has already been cast aside, abandoned, and now, cursed with an illness that no living being should be forced to face.

Chance needs a home, and a loving owner who will show him that he is worthy, safe and loved. Find the Facebook page for the animal shelter here.

  1. Simply Heartbreaking: This poor guy has had absolutely no Luck at All in his short life… Our society has deteriorated something Horrific in the last 20 years when It COMES to COMPASSION , HELPING OTHERS ,and HAVING RESPECT for our ANIMAL POPULATION!!!!

  2. Cancer in animals is treatable (like that in humans)……

We have had animals with cancer. One survived for several years, the other for a few months (both had chemotherapeutic treatment, one was diagnosed @ an “early” stage, the other @ an “advanced” stage)……..

I hope Chance gets an opportunity to be a treasured family member……

  3. I pray Chance has the opportunity to be adopted out to a loving family. Depending on the type of cancer, it can be treatable and the dog can live a normal life. My mastiff had a cancer mast tumor back in 2015. Although the tumor was removed, the Vet warned me that the tumor may return. Thank God, as of today Boo is still cancer free. As for the SOB who neglected and then abandoned Chance, your day will come. What goes around will come around!

  4. IT REALLY AMAZES HOW SUBHUMANS HAVE NO HEART AND CAN GO ON THEIR MERRY WAY WITH LIFE THINKING OF NOTHING WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO AN ANIMAL. HOPEFULLY THE SCUMBAG LOW LIFE BASTARD WHO LEFT THIS DOG GETS CANCER. I HOPE HE HAS A SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH.

  5. What is the cancer he has? It might help to know should someone want to take a risk to get him more time. Hang on Chance. There has to be someone out there that will love you for the rest of your life.

  6. What is the cancer he has? It might help to know so someone will consider taking him home and giving him more time. Hang on Chance. There surly is someone out there that will love you for the rest of your life.

  7. Chance desperately deserves a safe loving home which he obviously never had – PLEASE some kind person step up for this guy – he was abandoned and left tied to a pole – by a hunk of sewer sludge who had no concern for Chance’s welfare. Whoever did this deserves to be nailed to a tree and left – see how they like being abandoned, and hopefully is never found.

      • I contacted the Rescue but as with most in other states I don’t hear back. There have only been 2 Rescues out if Texas that reached out for other cases. I’m always interested in any of them. It’s hard to get to them because most don’t foster or adopt in other states. I try to help those states the most because they are more overcrowded & in need. I’m glad he’s safe but he deserves a warm loving happy home. We will keep our fingers crossed & keep praying!!
