After the Christmas holidays pass, it is all too common to see Christmas trees left curbside, taken to the trash, or burned. The beautiful trees, stripped of all that made them special and loved, are abandoned because the season and the novelty is over.

It’s often the same story for a dog or cat that is taken into a home.  For a while they are loved, cared for, petted, enjoyed until the novelty wears off and they are abandoned as they lose their appeal. Often these same pets are taken to a local pound, or in some cases, dumped by the side of the road like garbage.

Chester, a seven-year-old male dog suffered such a fate. Once someone’s pet, he was found abandoned on Route 23 in Wantage, New Jersey on High Point Mountain. It took his rescuer and her daughter three hours to gain his trust and go with them.  Poor Chester was in bad shape.  His body had rashes and tumors all over it. One tumor in his head was deemed cancerous, but it was removed.  According to the vet, the head tumor can return.

He also has very bad ears and will need to be on medication for the rest of his life. As if Chester hadn’t suffered enough, he had been attacked in his foster home by another dog and sustained another head injury which became infected. However, Chester, the dog who was fearful and wouldn’t go to his rescuers, now loves everyone and everything. He is a resilient soul and living happily in a new foster home where he is loved and described as amazing.

Chester’s rescue, medical care and foster were made possible by Safe and Sound Animal Rescue, a 501 (c) 3 located in Northern New Jersey.  They are run strictly by volunteers and survive on donations.  They also rely heavily on fosters to keep dogs like Chester until they can find a forever home. To date, Chester’s medical bills have climbed to $2000.00 but this once abandoned dog is forever grateful for a second chance at life.

  1. Another case of human trash that should have been left on the side of the road – it is no wonder I hate people like this – anyone who has no concern for the welfare of an animal they were SUPPOSED to love and care for and just dump it like garbage should be treated exactly the same – be driven to an isolated area and left to fend for themselves. They are useless sacks of shit and should be treated like such.

  2. To the author of this article. Great write-up on your part, but not with a happy ending. Chester was euthanized because Karyn (*Karen) Adam Pirl did not remove Chester from the foster home where this old boy got attacked. You need to follow these facebook pages discussing how Safe and sound animal rescue failed this dog. I believe she did and I believe Karyn is covering it up to save her face. What about a quarantine period when a dog bites a human? Was this euthanization done legally? Maybe you need to revisit this story. There are many unanswered questions that animal lovers are up in arms about. When they ask on Karyn’s personal facebook page, they are blocked. Go to Inspector Bark on facebook to find out what is being said about how Karyn (*Karen) failed Chester.
Sadly, pal, you were duped. Sincerely, an avid dog lover and one that hates liars like Karyn (*Karen) is.

  3. And now he’s dead. You may want to retract this story and spend more time researching people before you believe what they tell you. Scam rescues are running rampant.

  4. Chester was put to sleep, you should update your story. For details go to Inspector bark Facebook page, and dog rescues bad and the ugly, the full story is located on these pages
