On Friday, 18 badly neglected dogs were found at the home of a hoarder in Alexandria, Indiana. The Animal Protection League, which helped with the seizure of the dogs, wrote:

We never know what to expect when we get these calls, but always try to prepare for the worst.  Nothing could have prepared us for what we found.

According to the animal welfare agency, 18 Shih-Tzu and Shih-Tzu terrier mixes, were discovered in a tiny, feces filled home The agency stated that overwhelming ammonia smell could be detected from the driveway – in fact, two of the responding deputies had to seek medical attention for ammonia exposure.

One of the dogs was in such pitiful condition that he had to be humanely euthanized – the agency stated:

He was paralyzed in his back end, and had zero skin covering his tail and back legs.  The urine burns and pressure sores from years of being immobile were some of the worst we’ve ever seen.  One sore on his leg had been wrapped in duct tape.

All of the dogs were voluntarily surrendered by their owner. After the dogs have been nursed back to health, they should be made available for adoption.

  1. This gets me so angry. How can anyone be so selfish that they make their need to have all these dogs they can’t care for, more important than the welfare of these suffering dogs???!!!!

  2. Where are the criminal charges in this sickening horrific case? THIS IS A EXCELLANT EXAMPLE OF A CRIME THAT DEMANDS MANDATORY JAIL TIME…..PERIOD!!! YOU HAVE TO BE A SPECIAL KIND OF EVIL TO SIT BACK AND WATCH THE HORRIFIC SUFFERING OF THESE INNOCENT TRAPPED AND HELPLESS DOGS CAUSED BY THIS SICKO!! THIS EVIL “OWNER” SHOULD BE LOCKED UP FOR THE NEXT 10 YRS…..BETTER YET DISAPPEAR BACK TO HELL FOR ETERNITY!

  3. The owner needs to be “Locked in an OUTHOUSE ” for about 9 months with just enough vents to allow them to breath and let them defecate and urinate and don’t provide toilet paper of fly spray… they should get the Picture as to HOW Horrific the Torture to their little dogs was…. the maximum sentence and fines need to be imposed… Others in that state NEED to see this “WILL NOT BE TOLERATED” ANY LONGER!!!

  4. What do these hoarders get out of doing this to these animals? They certainly must realize that the animals are in pain from their living conditions, never being groomed, clean living areas. What is wrong with these people mentally that they do not ask for help? Now they will have criminal charges against them and this could have been dealt with before it got to this point.

  5. OMG: those poor precious little treasures, especially the little one who was euthanized (btw: there ARE adopters for disabled pets…… My husband and I specifically adopt “medically fragile” animals and provide whatever they need, including chemotherapeutic treatment, physical rehabilitation……
We have had several animals with heart conditions, blind, quadriplegic, cancer, epilepsy….. we are NOT afraid of dealing with health care…….
I am sorry this treasure wasn’t given any chance of being rehomed.
Rescued is my fave breed and they are all special treasures who want to love and be loved)……

Our precious little treasure MacKitty was a quadriplegic and he had a wonderful quality of life with us due to 9 vets helping us look out for his health issues…… he was given everything that could be medically done to support him…….We recently adopted a blind dog and he doesn’t know he’s blind….. he’s loved by all who meet him and doing very well!!!!!!

I hope the surviving dogs all heal and are adopted into furever homes where they will be treasured family members……

I hope the POS’s who neglected these furbabies do serious jail time…… no “valid” reason for this neglect……

  6. Hoarders are a bunch of selfish mentally unstable humans who may at one time had good intentions that went seriously awry – these dogs were horrifically neglected and if not rescued, they would have died and more than likely left to rot where they fell. This person should never have access to any animal ever again. They are not stable enough to care for them.

  7. Why oh why?? Can this evil person even share this world with people who care. She needs to be box up and keep her there till she feels what’s it’s like to abuse those innocent puppies. I pray that these babies find a good loving home .
