Meet Oreo – this 12-year-old senior is doing her best to remain positive, but how can we judge how she feels after the only home she has known for nearly her entire life has been exchanged for a wire cage at the Carson Animal Shelter? In an overcrowded shelter, a volunteer tells Oreo’s heartbreaking story:

“She’s beautiful and after 12 years living outside their home she was left at the shelter because she didn’t get along with the new husky they brought home.”

And for the last two weeks, Oreo has been making the best of a bad situation. #A5188386

“My name is OREO and I’m an approximately 12 year old female Pit Bull. I am already spayed. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 6/11. I will be available on 6/11. You can visit me at my temporary home at C107. My former family who owned me for more than 5 years had to give me up because they just weren’t up for the responsibility of a pet. But they said that I spend time indoors and outdoors. I seem to be good with small children. I have begun housetraining, but I still need some work. I have not learned how to walk on a leash. I’m not sure how I feel about other pets. “

  1. Disgusting family to dump this silver eyed senior who has lived outside most her life, now gets moved out for a new pet husky that she didn’t get along with. This poor dog probably never had any contact with other animals so a new one is like an invader into their territory. Just hope Oreo finds a family who will take her and give her the potty training she needs as well as all the love that she deserves. Please someone who has no pets, go get her. She looks like one of my dogs who has gone and was the most loving and friendly dog to humans of all sizes and ages.

  2. These piece of shit owners should be waterboarded – PLEASE some kindhearted person who has no other pets and wants a companion that is docile and in desperate need of a good home – step up for Oreo – you will never regret it. It is not her fault that no one took the time to train or walk her on a leash and I bet she would enjoy being the center of attention since she obviously got little to none.

  3. Hey Oreo you have no clue how precious you are …your my favorite kind of girlie…a. SENIOR … hop a flight to Long island..and Uber over.
Good luck beautiful little lady your real family will find your little pittie girlself.

  4. Sad what a jerk u could have tried to give him to someone who would adopt him instead of shelter poor huskey I pray he gets adopted ASAP bg

  5. California!!! The Guppy Population.. Hell it Wouldn’t Surprise me if these Narcissistic Guppies don’t try to get a Bill Passed the Legislation that when they tire of their Children.. they can’t drop them off and pick out another set they can Exchange them for!! Sad to say I don’t think California is a Disneyland of Joy and Happiness for many of the Pets that are procured by Californian’s … as they seem to become “Disenchanted” with Life and need something New and Exciting, be it spouses, houses, vehicles, or Companion Animal’s … I hope for this Gray Muzzle Lovely Girl that a Rescue for older Animals will take her under their wing, Such as the Grey Muzzle Organization!! Carson is pretty dubious as to when they take the animal into the euthanasia room…

  6. The owners “just weren’t up for the responsibility of a pet”? so why did they get a Husky? You don’t abandon your 12 year old pet because you get a new dog. You either make it work or you get rid of the new comer. How I hate people. I pray for this dog, Oreo is NOT in a good place!

  7. I can’t believe these asshole owners who do this to these innocent older animals. They deserve to be loved until the end no matter what. Those idiot owners need to be thrown in the cage instead. Just plain Assholes.

  8. There is a special place in Hell for people like this that get a new dog and then abandon the poor elderly dog that has been their companion for several years. You either make it work for the dogs or you get rid of the new comer! I hope Oreo finds a home and someone to love for the rest of his days, he certainly didn’t deserve this!

  9. I am really starting to dislike humans…. this is a horrid reason to give up a family pet. SHAME ON THE OWNERS WHO SURRENDERED HER! The new husky should have been returned before giving up Oreo!
