In the Claremont section of Baltimore, Maryland, a concerned homeowner notified authorities on Saturday morning, he found a frightened and emaciated puppy curled up in the doorway of the backyard shed behind his house. He explained the door had been broken, and the puppy must have entered during the cold night trying to keep warm. Especially troubling was the pup barely moved; she was weak, dehydrated, hungry and softly crying in pain. Somewhere a human failed her and nearly starved her to death.choban 2

When Rescue Dogs Rock NYC volunteered to help, they contacted their rescue partners at Baltimore City Animal Control who were able to get out to the  property and transport the puppy, dubbed Choban, to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Center (BARCS). From there the dog’s critical condition hastened her transfer to an emergency veterinarian hospital where her body score was evaluated as barely a “1” on a “1 -9” scale. Choban was cold to the touch – a huge cut on her face extended from her eye to her nose, her forehead had abrasions, and the wound on her left leg continued to bleed.choban 3

“You can see every bone in her tiny body,” stated Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC on the organization’s Facebook page as she described what happened to Choban. “Poor baby. What must she have been thinking each day when she woke up? Another day without food; another day of pain in her empty tummy. Our hearts were broken by her condition and seeing just how timid she was. We couldn’t get a good photo because—while very sweet—she wanted to curl up in the back of her transport crate.”

Choban is currently at the emergency veterinarian where her medical bill estimate for the first 48 hours will be $1,800. To help, please click here, Paypal at [email protected] or RDR NYC PO BOX 101 NY NY 10028.
