In the Claremont section of Baltimore, Maryland, a concerned homeowner notified authorities on Saturday morning, he found a frightened and emaciated puppy curled up in the doorway of the backyard shed behind his house. He explained the door had been broken, and the puppy must have entered during the cold night trying to keep warm. Especially troubling was the pup barely moved; she was weak, dehydrated, hungry and softly crying in pain. Somewhere a human failed her and nearly starved her to death.
When Rescue Dogs Rock NYC volunteered to help, they contacted their rescue partners at Baltimore City Animal Control who were able to get out to the property and transport the puppy, dubbed Choban, to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Center (BARCS). From there the dog’s critical condition hastened her transfer to an emergency veterinarian hospital where her body score was evaluated as barely a “1” on a “1 -9” scale. Choban was cold to the touch – a huge cut on her face extended from her eye to her nose, her forehead had abrasions, and the wound on her left leg continued to bleed.
“You can see every bone in her tiny body,” stated Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC on the organization’s Facebook page as she described what happened to Choban. “Poor baby. What must she have been thinking each day when she woke up? Another day without food; another day of pain in her empty tummy. Our hearts were broken by her condition and seeing just how timid she was. We couldn’t get a good photo because—while very sweet—she wanted to curl up in the back of her transport crate.”
Choban is currently at the emergency veterinarian where her medical bill estimate for the first 48 hours will be $1,800. To help, please click here, Paypal at [email protected] or RDR NYC PO BOX 101 NY NY 10028.

please update for Choban…so sad
Poor baby. Now you will be safe and loved. And I hope the piece of crap that did this to you will have the same treatment.
I am thankful that a caring person found her and took positive action.
There’s no excuse for a baby to be treated this way!i can’t even begin to imagine what Choban went thru! Stay strong little one! On you I place my kisses and my protection!
Poor little thing! My heart breaks for this sweetie!
So sad, seeing this poor soul, I hope who ever did this that they have nightmares for rest of their low misable life. Lord why, please help this poor pup have a second chance in life to experience what love is. Please.
So sad, praying Choban recovers from this and finds a loving family. What piece of evil did this to her.
Hoping Choban recovers from her ordeal. What horrible people to have caused her to fend for herself.
Thank God for the compassionate homeowner who cared enough to help this little dog – I truly hope Choban gets the safe loving home she so well deserves and obviously never had.
So Sad, thank you for finding her and having her saved just in time. I hope she will recover and find a forever home.
