On Tuesday, a woman was forcefully dragged off a Southwest Airlines flight by her arms and legs as she repeatedly screamed, “Don’t touch me. you have ripped my pants off.” Sound familiar as to another incident that involved a passenger in April from United Airlines who was carried off because the flight had been overbooked? This time, however it had nothing to do with overbooking; this time the passenger demanded that two dogs on the plane be removed immediately because of her “life threatening pet allergy.”

According to NbcNews, the flight from Baltimore to Los Angeles had two dogs on board. One dog was an emotional support animal, and the other was a pet; the woman stated she had a a life threatening allergy but did not have a medical certificate and demanded the dogs be removed. The airlines stated they would not remove the dogs, and the woman asked for a type of injection to alleviate her symptoms.

Passenger Bill Dumas said he heard a flight attendant say they needed a certificate to administer an injection, which the woman didn’t have. A pilot offered to let the woman exit the plane so an injection could be administered, but she refused.

“Our policy states that a Customer (without a medical certificate) may be denied boarding if they report a life-threatening allergic reaction and cannot travel safely with an animal on board,” stated airline personnel.

The crew repeatedly explained the situation to the woman, but she refused to deplane.  Once police officers come aboard to escort her off the plane, the situation and tempers escalated. Bill Dumas recorded the scene and told news media he thought the police were “being overly aggressive” even though the police and airline personnel spent a long time talking and “trying to work” with the woman.

“If you look at the police, they were being overly aggressive. Really she wasn’t giving them much of a choice, and the people on the plane were saying ‘just get off the plane,'” while the woman kept repeating her father was having surgery.

Another passenger on the plane, Julia Rockett heard the woman lodging a myriad of excuses as officers continued to lead her off the plane:

“She like kept saying she was pregnant, and then I heard her say her father had surgery, and then she said she was a professor and she needed to be in L.A,” passenger Julia Rockett, 20, said. “She was kind of yelling random things, and she knew people were recording.”

The woman was charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order, disturbing the peace, obstructing and hindering a police officer, and resisting arrest. She was later released on her own recognizance.

Southwest Airlines has apologized to the woman and will be contacting her directly to address her concerns.

Opinions – was the woman wrong and should the dogs have been kicked off the plane even though the woman had no medical proof?

  1. NO THE POLICE WERE CORRECT. She isn’t the only person who was supposed to be somewhere(although we still are not sure if OZ has an airport) She is another slef appointed Princess of all, the other people paid, the dogs were on the flight, and those passengers should not have to bow to some crack pot’s demands. the ONLY apology that should be issued, is the one from this woman! I have flown on Southwest. I have flown on many different airlines for work. NEVER have I encountered such nonsense as what is going on as late. Those puppies had as much right to be on the plane as Mrs. Whiney Hiney.

  2. Sounds to me she just wanted her 15 minutes of fame. Seriously, if she were THAT allergic to dogs she would have had some kind of identification, a bracelet, necklace, certificate, etc. Well she got “noticed” I hope she is happy.

    • Exactly. People I know that have major allergies always carry Epi-Pens. For her to keep changing her story makes me think she’s mentally imbalance or lying……maybe both.

  3. From all of the BS she was spouting and the fact that she knew she was being recorded, it sounds like she made it up to me. How many people with life threatening allergies DON’T carry what they need, or carry something to at least help? Paperwork? Emergency ID? No way in HELL this is legit.

  4. If the woman had a life threatening allergy like I do, she would not go anywhere without her Epi-Pen or other necessary medicine. She would also wear a medical alert bracelet or carry a medical card to validate her statement that she has such an allergy. When you live with something like that, you plan ahead and make sure you get on a flight where there are no service or companion animals in the cabin. It sounds to me like she was just trying to get attention for some reason and I applaud the police officers for getting her off the plane. I used to work for USAir and we had some passengers who were unbelievable.

    • Entièrement d’accord avec vous.

I have a life threatening allergy to peanuts. I have multiple epi pens (paid for personally as opposed to using health insurance). I keep them in my car, my husband’s car, at work in my desk, my briefcase, my purse……

When I travel, I take multiple epi pens with me (purse, carry on bag, medications kit)……

I also have copies of my “essential” prescriptions (paper and scanned)……

I have, sadly, been hospitalized multiple times (both in US and overseas)…… when one has severe allergies, it is life threatening to not have essential medications and prescriptions readily available…..

I do NOT expect others to “cater to my allergies”. I believe “luck favors a prepared mind” & I plan ahead for contingencies……..

Sorry, I do not believe this individual and have NO sympathy either…….

  5. Airline this time has nothing to apologize for. If she’s that allergic she needs to deal with anything needed ahead of time and carry an epi-pen. the whole world can’t rearrange itself for one person’s convenience!

  6. The officers did no harm, they did their job. She sounds like a crazy woman with not real reason, for her behavior. She reminds me of the lady that was yelling because if a service dog was with his owner, a ‘veteran no less at a restaurant. These type of woman have some serious loose screws. The airline should not apolize to her.

  7. why is the airline apologizing. if her allergies were that bad she would have some proof of that in case of a medical emergency. service dogs are allowed and the other pup was a paid for passenger.
sounds to me like she is an attention whore who is hoping to get lifetime free travel or something.

    IDIOT.

  8. I DO NOT understand why ANY GROWN ADULT will not follow a demand. OK, she didn’t want to leave…but did she think they were going say… oh ok…you can stay and have an allergy attack!! GET REAL PEOPLE…. if you are asked to do something by the police or someone in charge….JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!
I am so sick and tired of all the fussing and fighting and rude, belligerent behavior of adults any more…it is bazaar! EVERYONE seems to feel they are entitled to whatever they want!
The people with the animals, were on the plane legally, what did she think was going to happen?! They would remove two people just to please her?

  9. The airline did nothing wrong and no the dogs should Not have been kicked off of you gave a severe allergy u need to show proofs and plan accordingly … no adult should act like this and refuse any command from an officer especially one that is understanding

  10. She should have researched the airlines pet policy in view of her supposed allergy. She could have requested not to fly in the cabin near pets. Looney tunes looking for some cash!

  11. this is crazy , the dogs are better behaved than people from some of the things on airlines in recent news concerning incidents with aggressive behavior and booze related incidents , .i say keep the dogs on board .

    • Not everyone with allergies prefer to take drugs. The lady could be given a seat further from the dogs or vice versa rather than be asked to get off the flight as first opotion

      • It was her choice to be thrown off the plane. accommodation were offered.
she had no legitimate allergies. those are silky dogs they are not allergen’s. if she had a real medical condition She would have been prepared. She is an unruly mayhem artist and this time it back fired. she thought she would have grounds for a law suite. She clearly does not . thank god for cell phone video. why are you defending this nut.?
Incidentally, Boas she was Thrown off the plane.

      • Um, if you have severe or life threatening allergies, taking drugs and having them available at ALL times is not a choice. It’s a necessity. Unless there’s a death wish involved.

      • Right on to ellen and carrie. You take allergy medications for ragweed and pollen during the season, but, if you you supposedly have allergies to animals it causes you to break out in hives. No need of acting out in an emotional melt down. She’s a dog hater.

      • Boas then that’s her problem for not taking medications and no one else’s. She caused the problem on the plane not the owner’s of the dogs. Duh!

  12. She is a Muslim. They hate dogs. And they also lie – a lot. This arrogant woman thought everyone should bend to her mindless prejudice. If she really hates dogs that much, she should consider returning to the filthy, backward 3rd World hellhole from whence she came.

      • I don’t know if this individual is a Muslim.

I have had experiences on international flights where Muslim passengers refused to sit near dogs (who were legitimately on the flights). On two different international flights, I traded seats and sat next to the dogs. In each case I feel I got the best of the “deal”: I moved from center of the center section seats to window or aisle seats on the side of the plane…… ok by me!!!!!

I once asked a Muslim classmate why he disliked dogs. He told me that where he came from (Pakistan), dogs were “wild”, not pets and seen as “unclean” and dangerous…….

I think loving or hating animals can be a cultural preference. That being said, this individual, who was removed from the flight, was totally wrong with her behavior……
I think she owes everyone on the flight an apology for her terrible behavior……
