In Manchester, New Hampshire, a pregnant woman alleged to have killed her roommate’s pet ferret in the oven and turned it on, defended her action by telling police:
“They shouldn’t have a ferret because I’m pregnant.”
Ivana Clifford, 26, has been charged with one count of felony animal cruelty According to NH1, the fire department arrived at Clifford’s residence on Wednesday night after heavy smoke had been reported coming from the oven. Firemen found the dead ferret “stuck to the bottom coil of the oven.”
Cara Murray and James Klimavich had invited Clifford and her husband to stay with them after the couple had been kicked out of another apartment nearby. Murray and Klimavich stated they felt sorry for the couple at the time. Cara believes Clifford had planned to kill her pet two-year-old ferret named Angel, and that the ferret would nip – but that was because it was a baby.
On Wednesday, Clifford pleaded not guilty. Judge Gillian Abramson ruled Clifford would remain in jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail stating the nature of the case was worrisome:
“These allegations demonstrate a profound level of sadism that is of deep concern to this court.”
It has been reported Clifford is nearly eight-months pregnant.
