A Michigan woman has been sentenced to jail for abandoning a severely injured puppy. According to Fox 2 Detroit, 31-year-old Jennifer Visga has been sentenced to 93 days behind bars, ordered to pay $14,000 in restitution, given two years of probation, in addition to being banned from owning pets.

In August, Visga abandoned a severely injured pit bull puppy, dubbed Amari, and left her to suffer and die. The grievously injured pup was discovered by a good Samaritan who found her stumbling out of the woods and onto a busy road on August 15. Visga claimed that she made “a very bad decision” when she decided to leave the five-month-old puppy in the woods to die.

Amari, who is believed to have been injured in a dog fight, was taken under the wing of the A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue and she has been nursed back to health. On October 7, the rescue group updated Facebook followers about the puppy’s remarkable progress:

Amari is growing like a weed! Look at how big this seven-month-old survivor is! She is healing perfectly and loves her foster family! She is still being seen at OVRS for check-ups and will be ready for her vaccinations and spay soon! She says THANK YOU to everyone who has shared, supported and donated to her cause.

After Visga was sentenced, the rescue group expressed joy that justice had been served:

Justice was served today in Amari’s court hearing. We cannot thank our supporters, volunteers and followers enough who pressured the judicial system to provide the maximum sentence in Amari’s hearing.

Adding:

There is no excuse for animal cruelty and/or abandonment. There are so many rescues, veterinarians and good samaritans who are always available to help in times of difficulty. Amari has touched all of our hearts and we hope she has touched yours too and will continually remind everyone that there is always a choice.

Today was a good day. #ActionForAmari

To get recent postings in your Facebook feed, you must also hover your mouse over the word “following” and then click “see first” from the drop-down menu. You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your favorites among those to “see first.”

  1. Keep her stupid a** locked up and throw away the key! The same for all these animal abusers. We don’t need pieces of s**t like that on the street, especially owning pets.

  2. 93 days is not long enough! When will these judges crack down on these abusers and give them stiffer penalties!? Any abuse of animal should be a felony! Maybe if people faced more jail time they would think twice about abusing an animal!

    • O Yes, I agree – I would have a great time giving Jennifer Visga the punishment she deserves – worthless hunk of maggot shit is all she is – 93 days is a joke – these judges are totally brain dead – they are spineless – she purposely left Amari to die and gets no more than a slap on the hand – I hope she gets beat up every day for 93 days.

  3. I saw DO AWAY with the suspended sentence and heave her worthless, useless, sorry excuse of a body in jail!!!! NO SUSPENDED SENTENCE!!!

  4. I am so happy that judges are finally putting animal abusers in jail and making them pay for their wrong doings….I’m glad she can never own another pet….I just follow ow they are going to enforce it.

  5. So sad to hear what this horrible person did to this precious soul, I hope this women has nightmares for the rest of her life with no peace in her hear, soul and mine. Thank you Lord for the rescue who save her life. Wishing these precious baby a life of love and care.

  6. Bless this judge for doing their duty by truly serving and protecting this community, while sending a STRONG message that this will NOT be tolerated. Allot of spineless, lazy judges could learn a big lesson from this, but many will continue to turn a blind eye. Sad and pathetic!
