Cruel tale about puppy debunked

A Wisconsin man went to great lengths to get out of paying a surrender fee to an animal shelter. In fact, the man concocted a wild tale that screamed “animal cruelty,” for the puppy that he turned in to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin.

The man who turned the black pup in to the animal shelter had told the staff that he witnessed someone hurling the pup off of Memorial Bridge while he was fishing. The puppy supposedly had survived the fall and then swam to the shore before being “rescued” and taken to the shelter for care.

As it turned out, the supposed witness to this cruel deed was actually the puppy’s owner, and he didn’t want to pay the shelter the surrender fee. On October 13, the animal shelter explained:

You heard it right – the finder of this poor little pup made up his grand story all because a family wanted to be rid of the puppy. They say they didn’t want to or couldn’t afford our $75 fee for surrendering a dog to the shelter, but lots of people surrender pets to us every year and have trouble affording our fee.

The shelter explained how they work with people who have limited funds:

In those cases we work with people on lowering or even waiving the fees. Those fees cover part of the cost of care, feeding, housing, providing medical treatments, microchips, spay/neuter, vaccines and more. But we often waive those fees because we never want affordability to be a factor in people utilizing our services. We are here to help pets and we’re here to help people. We do it every day.

And then condemned the lies:

Unfortunately this family never called, never asked for help and jumped straight to lying to our staff. That really hurt our staff. We take people at face value and we trust people. We’re here to help, but we can’t help if people don’t ask

It was the Janesville Police Department which uncovered the truth. In the Wisconsin State Journal, Sgt. Dean Sukus of the Janesville Police Department, explained:

“Since (the incident) was never originally reported to police, an officer obtained the name of the person who turned the dog in and told the story of the puppy being thrown into the river. After interviewing that person and other members of the household, it was discovered the story was a fabrication to avoid paying a fee to the Humane Society to surrender the dog.”

No charges will be filed since the man lied to the animal shelter rather than to the police.

  1. Isn’t this little puppy absolutely precious?? Truthfully I’m glad, very glad this precious little fur baby is away from these two jerks!

  2. Man the things people will do to get out of forking over a little money! Be honest people, you’ll do much better in life!

  3. This whole family is a bunch of lying sacks of shit – this shelter should press charges on them for what they did to this innocent little dog – especially the male hunk of sewer sludge who threw this helpless puppy off a bridge – to allow him to get away with this is a crime – and this is their solution for not wanting to pay a fee – shows you what a load of human waste this family is – the only good thing is this little puppy did survive – now hopefully, some kind caring person will step up and give him the safe loving home these human hunks of manure never did.

  4. oh my god ,
