A Warwick, Rhode Island man faces animal cruelty charges for abusing and kicking an aged Shih Tzu after he grabbed the dog by the scruff of the neck – flipped it into the air causing the dog to fall and then kicking the defenseless dog in the face. Warwick Police Office Gavin McVeigh arrested Edward F. Sampson, 40 after interviewing witnesses and watching a video of the alleged incident recorded by a concerned neighbor.

According to the Warwick Post, a neighbor called authorities after he heard his new neighbor’s dog, who had been living upstairs, yelping as it it was in pain. The neighbor described the 15-year-old black and white Shih Tzu, and said he was concerned for the dog’s safety and had used surveillance footage of the man abusing the dog. Police stated the video showed the man flipping the dog head over heels several times before landing on the ground. The dog tried to escape, but the man grabbed the pup, threw it again and then kicked the helpless animal in the head.

In an interview, Sampson, who walked the dog named Jazzy for his girlfriend, said that he may have thrown the dog during a black out and didn’t remember. Sampson admitted he had not been taking his prescribed medications. Jazzy has been seized by the Warwick Animal Control. Sampson was released on personal recognizance and is not allowed to be near any animals without supervision. His court appearance is scheduled for July 10.

There has been no update on Jazzy’s condition. If you think an animal is being abused, call the authorities. Be the voice for those who cannot speak. Perhaps Jazzy is alive today because a neighbor recorded the alleged abuse and called the police. There are heroes for our animals everywhere. Be one!

  1. I’d like to give Edward Sampson a ‘blackout’ he’d never recover from. Maybe he’ll OD on his medications and do the world a favor. Jazzy deserves much better than to ever be anywhere near this jerk again.

  2. I’ll give him a blackout! A permanent one would be nice!. Walking the dog for his girlfriend? This POS needs to be dumped “girlfriend” how you haven’t noticed he “isn’t taking his medicine” and is abusing your dog, I can’t fathom! Thank goodness the neighbor stepped up, Poor Jazzy would most likely not be with us anymore!

    • learn your fact before you type. I know his girlfriend and she had just had surgery herself when this happened, so dhe wasn’t paying attention to his meds, he is a 40 uear old man not a child. They had also only been living together for a couple weeks. And the same day as this incident happened she left him, moved that same day and got a retraining order. So fathom that.

      • Frankly, Jess and Jess A, who I think are the same person, you come across as pretty whacked out yourself. And I wouldn’t give that poor dog back to you because decision making isn’t your forte.

      • I commented on the facts that were presented at the time of this article, I read this account and the Warwick Post account and do not see any mention of you being in the hospital. For all I knew you were living with this thug and he had just volunteered to walk your dog and committed this horrible act. I would think if you had been around him however you would have had some indication he wasn’t taking his medication. You were lucky, this could have been you or your child. As it is your poor dog Jazzy suffered at the hands of this maniac. I hope you are able to get Jazzy back and I hope you, your child and Jazzy never suffer at the hands to this POS again!

    • Know your facts before you comment his girlfriend at the time had just had surgery and wasn’t paying attention to his medication they had just moved in together a few weeks prior because she was having surgery so she didn’t even know what was going on and the day that all this happened she left him and got a restraining order, so fathom that.

      • I read these articles, I responded to what was written in them. If what you say is true then my response would have been different! So fathom that!

    • First off I had surgery n had no idea that he was hurting her she is loved also he is 4″ yrs not kid he needed to take care of he’s self I hate him agree u be punished n will All I want is jazzy home safe

      • Why is it the girlfriends responsibility to monitor a full grown mans medication? Stop trying to place blame on other people. She shouldn’t have to be concerned who or what her boyfriend chooses to beat the shit out of next. While I understand it’s a sensitive subject, there’s more then one victim here. Maybe you should fathom facts before finger pointing.

    • Derek, do you see anywhere in the story where he was taking care of the dog while the “girlfriend” was in the hospital? Of course she wouldn’t know what was going on, I was commenting at what the facts that were presented stated. So before you go “finger pointing” at me, I can understand there are more than one victim here! She is lucky she didn’t suffer through one of his black outs and end up back in the hosptal.

      • Jess – We didn’t know the full story. I am praying for you, your family and Jazzy. I know about abusive men. My first husband beat me, put a gun to my head and stabbed me. These abusive men generally only change for the worse. Never, ever go back to him. You, your children and your dog deserve a better life than this evil man can give you.

    • There have been numerous studies conducted and for some reason (undetermined in spite of numerous studies) many inmates detest abusers of women, children and animals. Inmates know what someone is jailed for – often even before they arrive. Many times these abusers have to be placed in solitary confinement for their own safety as these subhumans are often subjected to abuse or even murder.

  3. Poor Jazzy!!!! If Sampson is Jazzy’s owners boyfriend I’m afraid there is more abuse in store for that poor little dog. Chance are he won’t stay away from the owner and in turn Jazzy. That POS deserves a much harsher sentence. That was basically a slap on the wrist. Kick him in the face a couple of times and knock some sense into that worthless POS!!!

  4. Why is it necessary to abuse any animal? That’s easy because humans suck for the most part! There is no justification for this or any human putting their hands on any animal in violence. This is probably one of very respected humans who if anyone heard this would shrug and say his dog or whatever pet. Sorry in my world that doesn’t fly.

  5. I am old and crippled but I volunteer to give this subhuman son of Satan the beating of his wicked life with my crippled old lady cane!

  6. Thank u everyone I want and will get justice for my baby jazzy I had no idea he was hurting her ! I am sorry I did kit see the signs I love my dog very much and kids miss her too so much we just want her home where she safe
