In a landslide of emails and media attention, the Villalobos Rescue Center, founded by Tia Torres of Pit Bulls and Parolees, announced Wednesday on social media they were stepping up to help the pit bulls in the St. Landry Parish shelter who had been marked to be euthanized. Just days ago, the Louisiana shelter  stated the dogs described as “unwanted,”  had no interest:

“Starting Wednesday February 15…we will sadly have to euthanize 39 pit and pit type dogs. They have not been claimed…they are unwanted. They are every color..Every size. The one thing they have in common…The word PIT. Each dog has been posted ….Each dog is unique …(PLEASE keep your negative comments to yourself …we are trying to save these dogs …With this post…your negative comments DO NOT HELP) SLPAC Opelousas La 337-948-6184,” had been posted on their Facebook page.

Unfortunately the dogs – many of them suffering from neglect and abuse with medical and behavioral issues are not permitted to be adopted by the public, but rather need approved rescue organizations to take them. Tia clearly states the Villalobos Rescue Center is not taking in the dogs, but has offered their help:

“We are NOT taking in the 39 Pit Bulls so I want that to be clear. So these dogs STILL NEED YOUR HELP. We have our own small rural shelter to take care of in Assumption Parish. But we do want to help St. Landry Parish Animal Control & Rescue find the responsible and legit Pit Bull rescues as well as helping set up some temporary facilities so that they can hold these dogs longer.”

Tia’s message continued:

“I will be going out to the St. Landry Parish Animal Control & Rescue later this week to meet with the kind folks there and discuss a good game plan. But in the interim, those of you who have plastered our FB pages, bombarded us with emails and phone calls….now’s YOUR chance to help us to help them. If you are a rescue group that is able to take on the responsibility of even one of these Pit Bulls, feel free to email us at: [email protected]. We are going to help with transportation and possibly medical expenses (we’re working on that now).”

Please note that Tia strongly urges animal advocates, readers and dog lovers to hold off on the negativity towards the plight of the dogs at the St. Landry Parish shelter. It is help that is needed for these dogs at this time, and everyone is needed to help save the dogs. Please everyone – we all have opinions, but these dogs have no one except all of us. Tia is standing up to help – the least we can all do is join in and make this a better world for 39 lives who need us more than anything now. If you can help, please email  [email protected].

Hopefully the organization offering their most NEED , HELP < SUPPORT<ASSIATANCE< can help save these Pit Bull, Pit MIXES… This situation is NO DIFFERENT that the MICHAEL VICK , INCIDENT Where the ONLY ONE"S PAYING THE PRICE BUT THE DOG"S. Speaking of MICHAEL VICK ,,, HE of ALL PEOPLE Should STEP up with a MILLION BUCKS, he got his life and the game of Foot ball back… DO SOMETHING to show the people in The USA you REALLY HAVE CHANGED!!! Michael!

  2. OMG I love Tia Torres. It doesn’t surprise me she stepped up to help these dogs. I teared up with joy when I read that she was going to give all those lovely animals a chance!

  3. Tia Torres and all of the Villalobos Rescue Center “family of employee and volunteers” should be praised and appreciated on a daily basis. They have done an amazing job at changing peoples’ perception of the Bully Breeds. I have learned much valuable information by watching their TV show on Animal Planet. I am no longer afraid of pitbulls, but know to be cautious because of what horrid people have done to the dogs, not the dogs themselves. Priceless and freeing knowledge!
Thank you Villalobos for all you do, again and again and again.

  4. I adore Tia,and what, she has done for pit bulls and all other beads. I prayers she helps this shelter run a better organization likes her. The way they manage their Shelter needs a lot of help and education in how to help their dogs on their community get adotted.

  5. Okay, So, I just read that Tia unfortunately cannot house them all, but has stepped up to help and spread the word to animal advocates she knows. She is trying , with the help of the public, to find them homes. Hey, Tia or anyone affiliated with Villalobos , HAVE YOU TRIED THE ST. TAMMANY HUMANE SOCIETY IN COVINGTON? Because I do not think they are to full capacity right now. I was there several times recently and there were very few dogs. So , this is a no kill shelter. Perhaps they could house some of them!

  6. I am a devoted fan and admirer of Tia, her dedicated family and staff who every day do everything in their power to help and do everything possible for animals in need. It appears there will always be those disturbed people who want to stir up trouble or problems for a prominent family. Is it avarice, a need to be in the limelight or just meanness? Whatever, Tia, you are fighting the “good fight”. Shame on those trying to detract you and your organization from your unselfish quest!
