Body camera video has been released for the Minneapolis Police Officer who shot two dogs who were inside of their own yard, and the evidence does not appear to support the officer’s claim that he was charged before he made the decision to shoot his gun.

According to the Associated Press, Officer Michael Mays had stated that Jennifer LeMay’s dogs had charged him before he opened fire on them when he responded to a security alarm call on July 8. The body cam footage shows a dog named “Ciroc” wagging his tail as he trots over to Mays – the dog then walks, tail still wagging, towards Mays.

Another dog, named “Rocco,” runs towards Mays, who proceeds to shoot at both of them – surprisingly, the dogs survived, but suffered serious injuries. A fundraiser has been created to help cover the veterinary expenses for the dogs (click here to learn more).

Mays is being investigated and the department is helping to cover the veterinary bills for both dogs.

  1. The police offered to pay a portion of the Vets bill????? Make the gun hoe cop that shot them foot the bill…that so called cop should be put off the force..take his gun away from him…he’s to damn trigger happy… I feel for those two dogs…they got a bum rap!!!

  2. Need training, that is a joke! Most police officer training concerning dogs involves watching a video tape! As we can see this does nothing when these idiot police are approached by a dog, ANY dog! They need to be sued, the officer telling that poor hysterical girl he “loves dogs” is absurd, he shot her pets, they are hurt, don’t tell me you LOVE DOGS! This whole situation is disgusting and I’m glad the owners aren’t letting them get away with this!

  3. ALL the vet bills and then some should be covered by this coward masquerading as a police officer. These dogs were NOT being aggressive. There was absolutely NO cause to shoot them! Make him pay every penny of the vet bills, and any additional bills that are bound to come from this (like physical therapy, etc., for the dogs). I’m sick and tired of armed police officers shooting at anything that moves! Police departments need to start training officers for dealing with not only dogs, but other animals – and even people! So many murders by cop lately. Glad the dogs survived, but they didn’t deserve to have to go through this. Same for the dogs’ owners. I can’t even imagine what I’d do if someone shot one of my dogs.

  4. Fundraiser set up? They want other people to pay when it should be the responsibility of the cop that shot them! Take it out of his pay and then fire him, he can’t be trusted!

    • Vous avez raison. Un assassin reste un assassin. Pas d’excuses, pas de pitié pour ceux qui se croient au dessus des lois. A MORT.

  5. Cop should be charged and jailed! Needs to pay all bills associated with their treatment/care, recovery…long term. POS This whole incident MUST be used in training of cops. THIS NEEDS TO STOP!!! Sick of it!! Stupid people CAN NOT be cops. COMMON SENSE should be a requirement to be a cop.

  6. Of course, the video doesn’t support the shooting of the dogs – because the cop is a POS cowardly bastard who needs to have his gun taken away from him permanently. The video breaks my heart of the poor dogs being shot in their own freaking fenced yard. Stay the F out of the yards, you POS police.

  7. This is a good reason not to invest in an alarm system – this story repeats itself over and over. Cops shooting the pets of the people they are supposed to be “helping” – no thank you!

  8. I have been haunted by this from the moment I saw it! And this cop was wrong! Why must they go for lethal force when they have a taser to use? Even tho that wasn’t necessary either because these dogs did nothing wrong!
