Christmas came early to a family in Kansas City, Missouri, whose dog suffered a medical emergency last week. According to KCTV 5 News, the Hibbs’ family dog, Zeus, showed signs of a problem last week – the dog was not himself and seemed out of sorts.

Zeus was taken to the Independence Animal Hospital where staff determined that he had swallowed part of a rope chew toy and needed to undergo emergency surgery to save his life.  Zeus’ family had enough money for the deposit, but they were unsure where the remainder of the funds would come from.

As it turns out, the veterinary hospital took care of the problem. Katlyn Hibbs told KCTV about the wonderful thing that happened when she went to pay:

“I walked up to the counter, and this lady at the counter says, here’s your receipt…Merry Christmas! They saved our dog and they helped pay the bill.”

The act of kindness came at just the right time. Katlyn hopes that someday she is able to return the favor to someone else who is in need.

  1. This family should be commended for not giving up on their dog just because they couldn’t pay the bill. Other families should take note! Glad Zeus is doing well and the vets are showing true compassion the way it should be! Thanks!

  2. Wow! Would-to-God I lived close enough to patronize that vet!
With a normal “forever” complement of ten rescued companions, their compassion would be most appreciated!
    Merry Christmas, Zeus!

  3. The vet did a wonderful thing for the family, but hopefully people are not going to show up at this animal hospital expecting free or lower cost treatment. The doctor was able to do this because most people do pay, so keep that in mind.

  4. This is the kind of Veterinarian you want to have. What a wonderful thing to do for this family. I’m glad Zeus was saved and bless the Independence Animal Hospital, they are true angels!

  5. This is a VERY RARE and GRACIOUS GIFT.. The vet had to of seen how very much this family cared for their pet!!! I am sure this family will Pay -it-Forward down the road… Bless the Vet and Staff, caring family and ZEUS!!!!

  6. Thank you to this wonderful veterinarian clinic. I’m glad Zeus will have a Merry Christmas and I hope his owners pay it forward at some point in their lives.

  7. Nice to know there are some veterinarians whose priority is the animal and not the almighty dollar. Independence Animal Hospital showed their kindness and generosity – this is a rare occurrence and hopefully, the family appreciates that this clinic saved Zeus.
