In Dallas, Texas a Golden retriever had been attacked by a pack of stray dogs at a rural trailer park. Neighbors stood there shocked, and said there was nothing they could do to help. When the small crowd was finally able to ward off the horrific ordeal and chase the dogs away, the terrified Golden ran and hid underneath one of the homes; covered in blood and badly injured from multiple dog bites, Goldie had no intentions of ever coming out.goldie after

The helpless dog laid in shock until he was finally coaxed out. By that time, Goldie was  extremely weak and reeked of a rancid odor – the result of his multiple infected wounds. Brought to a local kill shelter, he never would have had a chance to survive without the help of animal advocate, Leslie Ysuhuaylas, who called Rescue Dogs Rock NYC and asked if they would step up for the dog’s  survival and his emergency treatment. From there, Goldie was rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital where he received life-saving treatment.

On Wednesday, Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of the rescue organization, updated supporters stating Goldie has now been released from the veterinarian hospital and has been transferred to a foster home. As can be seen by his photos, most of his coat has been shaved away to treat the gashes, bites and scratches. And sadly, as serious as his physical injuries, the dog’s emotional state is just as worrisome.goldie after 3

“Goldie is fearful to walk and pancakes to the ground most of the time,” stated Stacey. “He has a long road back to being a healthy and well-balanced boy. We believe with love, patience and kindness, Goldie will flourish and gain confidence and eventually become happy and at peace once again. Right now he needs to heal.”

Rescue Dogs Rock NYC thanks everyone for the outpouring of support and love shown towards Goldie.

“He feels the love, we promise,” added Stacey.

  1. So Sad, I still can’t believe that there was nothing anyone could do. They should have stepped in sooner and helped that poor baby.

  2. Unfortunately it’s not going to be an easy road for Goldie! This poor dog will probably never make it all the way back! Before the angry comments start it’s simple! Goldie will be fine in a quiet home where there are no other dogs around it! This poor dog was attacked and none of the people who saw this had the balls to stop the attack! Most dogs especially this breed don’t recover psychologically from such an attack by multiple dogs!

  3. I REALLY appreciate the fact the photos and a current update was given so people could see the condition Goldie was in. Hopefully he can find a home with very understanding, caring, and dedicated people that will help him thru the fear , and emotional upheaval he is suffering at this time….

  4. His actions speak of more than a dog fight. He could have been abused well before being attacked. I hope there are better days in his future.

  5. I agree, where are the other dogs that did the attack? What if it was a small dog? It would be lunchmeat! Thank you for the update. I hope the foster home is long-term, and I am concerned about comment “this breed does not recover well from such attacks.” My small dog was attacked by a group of four at a dog park, all owned by same person, so they acted as a pack! My heart goes out to the rescue, the foster and the beloved victim.

  6. Ms Silverstein…, Thank you for all you and your staff do for all these abused dogs. All I can do is donate when I can and say a little prayer..!
