Three-year-old pregnant Miss Bella had been overwhelmed with confusion and fright at the Carson Animal Care Center. The poodle and Maltese mix to have been available for adoption on November 14, quickly created a social media outrage. Very close to having her puppies, the dilemma worried advocates:
“Saving Carson Shelter Dogs The county policy is to spay/neuter all dogs that leave the shelter. If one is pregnant and a private party wants to adopt, that dog will be spayed and the unborn babies will be aborted. This dog is way too far along and the babies are almost full term. They will have to individually euthanize each one if the adopter goes through with the adoption. If they release their hold to adopt her, a rescue organization can save her and they will allow her to go out pregnant. The shelter called the adopter, but they haven’t called back yet was the latest….”
Several approved organizations offered to rescue Miss Bella, care for her puppies when they are born and then adopt them out through their programs, however on Monday, an update posted on Saving Carson Shelter Dogs Facebook became worrisome:
“Update: 11/13/17 2:00pm PST. I just left the shelter. The Carson Shelter manager told me the dog is going to be spayed tomorrow. She will not be made rescue only. He is aware there is a rescue willing to take but that’s his final decision. The dog will be spayed tomorrow meaning the unborn puppies are going to be killed.”
Advocates were asked to politely contact the shelter and ask that Bella be allowed to leave with an approved rescue organization. And on Tuesday came the good news:
“Sal Valdepeña Update – We will be pulling mom unspayed today. A million thank yous to everyone fighting so hard for her.”
Then came the announcement everyone was waiting for:
” The Carson Animal Care Center just called me, and the shelter will be releasing her to us Harlee’s Angels unspayed. She will be allowed to have her babies and once she’s ready she will be spayed. This is all because you wonderful people Cared. Thank you, Sue Flemings Jessica Brooklyn Janice Kerrigan Lee Stevens Shawna Hamon Tere Molina Kacey Montoya Cheryl Hanna and her village of supporters. I’m so thankful that county admin is working with us. This is the way to do it.”
This sweet dog has been renamed Melissa. Many thanks to Carson Animal Care Center for making this dog a priority.

Carson Shelter ONLY let these puppies be born because of the backlash they got. They finally changed their stupid idiotic decision and allowed Bella to be released to Harlee’s Angels and have her puppies. I hope she and her babies all get safe loving homes that would never have happened if left to Carson.

What kind of “people” are running Carson anyway. This “shelter” (I use the term loosely) is nothing more than a death trap. If it weren’t for “Saving Carson Shelter Dogs” there would be much more despicable things going on!
