Just one week ago, the photo of Queenie – another victim of heartless neglect found curled up behind a small shed in the Houston, Texas area went viral as the phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” so perfectly described the dog’s heartbreaking plight. She suffered in silence until a group of animal advocates coordinated her rescue with Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
On Friday, the young dog underwent four hours of surgery to remove and debride the dead and infected skin over her body. The infection ran so deep, the surgeon could see the tendons on her legs. She has been bandaged to protect her raw skin and will have her dressings changed daily. Blood levels are in the normal range, and Queenie remains comfortable being administered appropriate doses of pain medications. Further infections are her biggest obstacle at this time; she remains on antibiotics to stave off future infections.
And now on Sunday morning, Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, updated the dog’s condition on the organization’s Facebook page with some encouraging words:
She loves to eat !
She is having a good morning and doing slightly better today
She still is very critical but her medical team is quite pleased with her progress
Slow and steady
Please continue to pray for Queenie , it’s helping!”
