Update on death row dog
Spread the love

Days ago, the final call was issued for a “perfect” dog who was on death row at a rural animal shelter in the Corpus Christi, Texas, area. The dog, named “Gabe,” had been taken from the animal control agency to be practiced on by vet techs in training, but was returned to the facility where he was on death row because of a lack of kennel space.

Fortunately, this death row dog has a happy “tail.” The Big Dog Rescue Project was able to arrange for Gabe to be pulled from the dog pound and today, he is safe and receiving much-needed care.

Gabe appears to have been neglected during his life – he is infested with fleas and ticks, has old scars, bleeding gums and he is heartworm positive. Gabe will be treated for his many maladies and when he is healthy enough, he will be made available for adoption.

If you would like to help Gabe’s rescuers cover his veterinary expenses, donations can be made at this link.

About the rescue agency:

Big Dog Rescue Project, or BDRP, is a small close knit group of independent dog rescuers that came together to form an organization devoted to saving dogs from the multitudes of high kill shelters in the DFW area. We specialize in saving large breed types and re-homing in the Pacific Northwest and in the North East where there is less overflow and a high volume of qualified adopters. We are all volunteers, each with our own strengths, and all devoted to the cause of improving the quality of life for those dogs discarded and forgotten. We are a 501c3 organization so all contributions are tax deductible .

  1. To be “practiced on” by vet techs??? Why didn’t they do something to help him? Even something as small as getting him something to get rid of fleas would have been much appreciated. Thank goodness someone stepped up to the plate to help this sweet boy.

    • You bring up a valid point, what exactly did they practice? Certainly they could and should have at least gotten rid of the fleas and ticks!

  2. So glad Gabe is safe – hopefully, he will recover from his neglect and get the safe loving home he so well deserves and obviously never had.

  3. That is wonderful news. Thank you so much for saving Gabe. Have a wonderful, happy life, Gabe with people who love you and take good care of you.
