Chinese zookeepers pushed a frightened live donkey into a moat at the Changzhou Zoo as prey for three hungry tigers. The panicky animal tried to hold on hugging his legs and hooves against the concrete precipice, but to no avail. According to the Daily Mail, the two men dressed in rain gear showed no compassion for the donkey and heartlessly pushed the defenseless animal down the ramp where there could be no escape.

The video, which had been released by Live Leaks on Monday went viral- garnering more than 210,000 views. It showed zoo financial investors pushing the live donkey down into the water into the tiger enclosure as zoo guests including children watching in absolute horror. The men had pulled the donkey out of a pickup truck, and within moments of the animal falling into the moat, two tigers swam in after him biting and clawing at the terrified donkey. It has been stated it took a half-hour for the donkey to die.

According to the Guardian, the irate shareholders had also planned to toss a sheep into the tiger enclosure; that is until zoo security kicked the men off the grounds. In a statement from the website Sohu.com, the shareholders were angry they had not been paid after having invested in the zoo nearly two years ago. Some investors had received zero financial returns on their investments and believed the zoo officials had been “conspiring to cheat small investors of their investments.”

When the courts became involved, the zoo’s assets were frozen which angered the investors even more:

“Since we can’t have any benefits, we thought why not feed them to the tigers, at least we can save on animal feed,” one of the heartless investors told media outlets.

The zoo hasn’t had any money to purchase food or needed and emergency veterinarian services, thus resulting in the deaths of two giraffes and one chimpanzee. According to the statement on the Sohu.com website, the investors were not only angry at not seeing any payments, but then the death of the zoo animals fired their anger even more.

The zoo has since issued a public apology promising something as horrible as this would never happen again. It is interesting, although disturbing to learn, that there are zoos in China which actually permit guests to pay to see live cows or chickens fed to tigers. The Changzhou Zoo, however does not allow live feedings.

  1. Sickening! So these are the Zoo’s financial investors that did this? This whole story makes NO sense what so ever!

    • I’m questioning why the situation wasn’t prevented. You can’t convince me that they weren’t seen driving a truck with a donkey to the enclosure didn’t raise any concerns?!!!!

      • That’s a good question, If I were at a zoo and saw something like this, I would up screaming my head off asking what they thought they were doing, not just standing there videoing it!

      • its all a very nice snow job.
But the real issue here is why did the investors Choose to by pass the butcher service offered “free” as part of the purchase price. why did they choose to throw a living animal that desperatly fought for its life clinging to a wall into a mote with tigers who incidentally Never killed live prey before. tigers in the wild dont take a half hour to kill something. These cats did not know how to kill “quickly”.

The truth is the tigers ate this animal alive. and in broad daylite infront of woman and children.
And the reason!? you didnt see any money from your investments!?
No sirs your intention was to instill this zoo as a “pay to watch ” cows. chickens, cats, dogs, children and what ever you could get away with thrown to hungrey tigers isnt it? Sirs? You litterally were “testing the waters”. This was your intention all along. This is the real reason you invested in this zoo isnt it? sirs.

Maybe your next investment should be Blueberries? everybody wants blueberries. but that would not satisfy your money grubbing blood lust would it now?

      • linda, i do believe they were on it. They interviened and stopped the sheep being thrown into the pit. a sheep or donkey entering into a zoo is not unusial they have butchers to prepair food for meat eaters. they b.lined and quickly pulled the donkey out of the truck and threw him in the enclosure.
They were stopped by security. Regardless of the fact they were “investers” and im sure had the run of the zoo.

      • One thing is for sure.
The Zoo people are clearly animal lovers and have compassion so do the chinese people who stopped it. i think all of us here and on the previous report where led to believe these were zoo workers who did this. I think we owe these chinese people an apolegy and to have our prayers and support.
I am beginning to see chinese people may feel about animals the way we do. I am beginning to relize chinese people are good people coming out of a dark age.
I think we should help them. At the very least cheer their small victorys against unnessary animal suffering.

        Way to GO!
        Changzhou Zoo!!

      • This is the most idiotic, insensitive, and ignorant thing anyone can say about this story.
“Zoo people are clearly animal lovers and have compassion”
~ what!? If they cared about animals they wouldn’t work at a zoo and exploit animals
“We owe these chinese [abusers] an apology?”
~ Now that’s really an insane thought. Maybe we should apologize to ALL the serial killers of the world too!
“Chinese people may feel about animals the way we do.”
~ well, maybe you have a point here. They do like to torture and kill innocent animals, same as millions of other people around the world. Shoving a defenseless and terrorized animal to it’s death is no different than beating/ torturing their dogs and cats to ‘tenderize’ the flesh before eating them and is no different than animal haters around the world paying farmers and slaughterhouse owners and employees to rape the animals, torture the animals and then hang a 1000 lb cow upside down by 1 leg in order to saw off the other legs while still alive; or kill chickens and turkeys by boiling them alive; killing pigs a.k.a. bacon by bashing in the skull with a sledgehammer multiple times until the animal stops seizing and drops to the ground; killing fish by gutting them alive (the lucky ones die by asphyxiation).
“coming out of the dark ages”
        ~this is a delusional statement
        “victory against unnecessary suffering”
~ok, now I’ve heard it all. someone needs a dictionary to learn the meaning of ‘unnecessary’ and ‘suffering’. And then understand there is no such thing as ‘necessary suffering’.
        “we should help them”
~Help all these innocent animals yes. Help their abusers? No. Drop a bomb on all the abusers of the world.

        Changzhou Zoo!!

  2. There is no excuse for what these evil men have done. They deserve to be fed to the tigers in exactly the same way they fed the innocent donkey. These men do not deserve to live among decent kind people.

    • ABSOLUTELY! These dirty bastards took their frustrations out on an innocent animal – they should have thrown in the zoo officials.

  3. I understand the investors were upset. In business there are good decisions and bad! They may have made a bad investment! Good bad whichever suck it up!! Grow up!!! WHAT DID THAT DONKEY DO TO DESERVE WHAT HE GOT??? Acts of REVENGE! You”re angry at someone so kill their dog, torture their cat. What the hell’s wrong with you people! ? There’s one place for all of you…….JAIL! You aren’t fit to be around decent people! You’re a disease and a huge festering boil on the ass of humanity!!! Your kind are ANIMALS and need PUT AWAY! These investors need PUNISHED!! Get a petition started and impact these officials!!!! Too much of this REVENGE KILLING IS GOING ON….STOP IT!!!!!!

  4. Hope them and their families get cancer. I would personally be the one to sink a blade slowly through their brain as they twitch in their last stages.

  5. I don’t care what the reason was for this tragedy, the ZOO HAS AN OBLIGATION TO THEIR ANIMALS TO PROTECT THEM FROM HARM!!!!!!! This story sounds like an excuse to save those who failed to protect those animals. The whole tragic incident is disgusting and horrible sad for the donkey.

  6. Got an idea: why not get those investors and feed THEM to the tigers after the zoo is closed for the evening?

This can be looked upon as a way to sabotage the zoo and even force them to sell off its assets in an attempt to get some return on their investment.

To me, that would be a more than fitting punishment for the nightmares those children will endure for the rest of their lives.

  7. EXCUSES !!!! EVERYONE INVOLVED ARE HEARTLESS MONSTERS !!!!!! EXCUSES !!!! WHILE CHILDREN WATCHED !!!!! THIS IS DISTURBING ON “SO” MANY LEVELS !!!!! BOYCOTT CHINA !!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOYCOTT CHINA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOYCOTT EVERYTHING CHINESE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM DONE !!!!!!!!!!!! It is not “just” this. A lot of their ridiculous practices, the decimation of the Rhino for their horn. They believe it makes their stupid dick stay up longer …. the Yulin Dog Meat Festival … YES, they call it a FESTIVAL.. Your going to have to look it up … But they believe the dog has to be brutally and as painfully murdered, thrown live into boiling pots, hung live to die, hung alive and then they start at the bottom and burn them alive, because they believe the meat taste better because of the adrenaline from the torturous and inhumane death … THEY ARE JUST FRIKEN STUPID !!!! STUPID !!!! STUPID !!!

  8. Sorry, there was NO excuse for this barbaric behavior……… There was no reason to murder a friendly donkey from the petting zoo area (wonder what these POS’s did with the sheep and goat stolen from the petting zoo area)???

Now the tigers think ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING in the moat is “food”……. suppose the next time it’s a child……..

These POS’s deserve the same treatment they gave to that terrified donkey………. Now to see the tigers devour them would be justice………. but then again why make the tigers sick???

  9. Zoos need to not exist ANYWHERE in the world!!! I’ve lost count of the zoos that cannot afford to feed or give even basic care to its animals!! And the animals are trapped in these hell holes to slowly suffer to death! REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!! And I don’t care what anyone else thinks….. I really despise the country of China!!!

  10. This is exactly WHY WE in the USA Should be thinking about when we are BUYING all of our products OVER there from a bunch of fucking barbarians!!!!

    • I’ve been trying not to buy Chinese made products ever since they tried to poison our children with lead paint on toys, then there was the pet food and treats from china killing our dogs! I always check the labels on things and if it’s made in China, I try to find an alternative, the problem is, our choices anymore aren’t that plentiful! Our country has outsourced so much to “China” it’s hard to find something that “Isn’t” made there!

      • These Chinese /Malaysians are all about the almighty Dollar… I Had ( you notice had) a friend for over 17 years who was a single mom, here in the US where she was abandoned with a 6 month old child by her riff-raff husband… we befriended her and spent time, money , and friendship , she had a BA from Salt Lake in business… Greed , Greed, and more Greed… it is not like she needed the money, money was and is her God…. I even watched her take a couple bucks for a skate board that was mine and put it in her fund last year… I was taken back, she knew it wasn’t hers …and also thought I didn’t see it… She is no different that the angry share holder’s …. Those people are totally ruthless… when it comes to a buck… as of this Summer we are no longer friends … Her son 17, is lazy, demanding, arrogant, asshole… he is too good and only wants to run with the rich kids in his class… holds her hostage for money refuses to work.. the cycle continues… by the way she would never let him have a pet, because they are too much trouble….

  11. I have lost it with people. Maybe I should stop reading this crap. “thought at least we could save on feed?” VOMIT. Rot you bastards

    • “americans are just as bad”.

YES !!!! Finally !!! Someone who knows what the hell they are talking about and sees this for what it really is.Now someone knows what they’re talking about.
      Thank you!

  12. Every year in June up to 15,000 innocent defenseless dogs (and cats), including pets), are tortured and slaughtered at the Yulin, China dog massacre.

The following organizations are working hard and endlessly to permanently stop this “hell” for animals:

    Change.org
    ForceChange
    Animal Petitions
    Animals Asia
    Care2
    Greater Good Network

BUT THEY NEED OUR HELP! Thank you, Pet Rescue Report, for your support.

  13. Thousands are boycotting Chinese products because of the 10 million dogs and cats ruthlessly slaughtered every year. This zoo event is just another reason to keep boycotting. These subhumans who feed live animals to other animals enjoy watching the pain and suffering just like the ones in Yulin and other places like to watch the brutal massacre of dogs and cats!

That being said–there are organizations in China and worldwide fighting HARD to end this, and those organizations deserve our support.
