Disturbing abuse captured in undercover zoo video

A Canadian animal law charity has released undercover video footage which reveals disturbing animal abuse at a zoo in Ontario. According to the National Observer, the video, which was released on Friday, was taken at the Papanack Zoo one year ago and the footage shows employees admitting to abuse of the animals, as well as dismal living conditions for those who are in the zoo’s care.

Camille Labchuk, executive director of Animal Justice, told Global News,

This footage shot at the Papanack Zoo shows a number of very disturbing things, including baby animals ripped away from their mothers when they’re very young so they can be used as selfie props,

Animals can be seen restlessly pacing in small pens and showing other signs of mental and emotional stress – outright actions which appear to be abusive are also captured on the video. The footage is in stark contrast to what the zoo has stated on its website as its mission:

Our goal is to provide animals with a comfortable, caring and safe living environment, while allowing the public an exciting, educational and fun place to visit!

A protest outside of the zoo is scheduled for Saturday, and the Ontario SPCA has launched an animal cruelty investigation.

  1. What’s really shocking is that this is Ontario it’s not some hick County it’s a major hub it’s where Canada meets new York state.
Toronto! What the hell are you doing about this!?
We Americans demand resolution. Dismantled the underfunded under regulated zoo and release the the animals to approved and regulated sansuantrys. Now!

    • Treaudo where are you, your supposed to be a humanatarian, there are other important things going on besides refugees, after all you stole these animals from their natural habitat to exploit, torture , in the name of money, the humans in this video belong in a cage!

  2. THESE SCUMS ARE A PIECE OF SHIT. ALL ANIMAL ABUSERS ARE DAMN COWARDS BECAUSE THEY CAN’T TAKE ON ANYONE THEIR SIZE. HOPE THEY ALL ROT AND DIE AFTER SUFFERING.

  3. Why cover the abusers faces up all the time ? Shame the bastards and let people knowingly see who they are ! Not like you can be sued for dhowing who and where when is obviously a crime.

  4. Abuse and torture show no boundaries between countries. When government officials hear about and even see video, they don’t use their authority to investigate and shut these places down. Canada as well as the United States government need to open their eyes and deal with this ever growing problem of animal abuse. Punishment for these owners and workers should be kept in the same conditions as these animals were for 2 months and then put in jail.

  5. Once again Canada proves its total lack of humanity towards animals – ALL zoos are nothing more than animal prisons and Papanack’s employees cruelty to the animals is proven by the video – whoever runs this hell hole needs to be fired, as well as the abusive employees – it seems this zoo’s ONLY priority is greed – these animals deserve MUCH better and I hope Canadian citizens step up and protest loudly and forcefully to ensure those responsible for the cruel treatment are GONE.

  6. ANY ZOO caught doing things like this should be shut down immediately. If they do this to one animal, they do it to all. Employees need fired immediately and brought up on cruelty charges. YOU HAVE IT ON TAPE so none of this “alleged” crap. The only way this is going to stop is to make the punishment severe enough that they will think about it twice before doing it again. From what I have read over the years, Canada is a cess pool for animals. Shame on you for allowing such treatment. DISGUSTING.

  7. I do not care how needy someone may be for a job…..they should NOT BE HIRED if they do not love, cherish and respect animals. Zoos, pet stores, rescues should not allow ANYONE who does not put the animals first!
