Charges dropped against officer in case of dog's death

A former police officer, whose police K9 died inside of a hot car, has had two of the animal cruelty charges against him dropped. According to Tuesday’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution, on January 18, two charges of aggravated animal cruelty were dropped in the case against Daniel Peabody, a former Cherokee County school police officer.

Peabody’s four-year-old Belgian Malinois K9 partner, “Inka,” died inside of a parked Ford Crown Victoria on June 10. The dog was left inside of the hot vehicle for several hours – a necropsy confirmed that she died of heat stroke.

Peabody is now facing just one charge for making a false statement during Inka’s death investigation – the charges of aggravated animal cruelty were dropped because his lawyer argued that proper “warning” was not provided that the case would be presented before a grand jury, reported 11 Alive News.

Peabody is also tied to the death of another canine named “Dale.” That dog, a yellow Labrador retriever, was shot to death by Peabody shortly after he retired in 2012 – Peabody had taken custody of the dog and had initially told investigators that the dog died after choking on a ball.

  1. What happened to protect and serve….He should be put in jail with the people he’s arrested… justice would be served…. what a jerk….
He shouldn’t be allowed to have any pets…. what about charging him with lying to the police ….

    • a judge (GOD) just ignored what he did.. i use to have tremendous respect for judges, but in the last few years, it seems they put on those black robes and they think they are GOD, basically we have given them so much power they are …need to be reigned in also.

  2. This POS should never have been allowed a second dog after he killed Dale. Peabody is a lying POS….and his lawyer is a no-good, scum sucking, ambulance chaser. RIP Inka. I’m sorry you suffered a horrible death. RIP Dale. Your death may have been fast if Peabody shot you but you didn’t deserve to die. I think Peabody deserves to suffer as Inka did.

  3. OMG! Come on! This POS is responsible for two dogs losing their lives and some POS lawyer gets him off because “proper “warning” was not provided that the case would be presented before a grand jury”. This is disgusting, he killed these dogs and needs to pay for it!

  4. He deserves to be charged. It doesn’t matter what happened, he left his Partner in the car to die, If he had done that to a human Partner he would be in Prison, No questions asked. They are as human as it gets and he needs to be charged in his death.

  5. This is a complete travesty of justice for both dogs. They deserve far better than this. Karma will catch up with this POS in the guise of a human, and when it does, I hope that he dies a real slow excruciating death.

  6. THE DOG DIED A HORRIBLE PREVENTABLE DEATH. He should be charged and punished for animal cruelty. Then we see he is a liar also, saying another dog died from choking on a ball when actually the monster shot him. We don’t need cops like him around. I say put him in jail with hardened criminals who love dogs. There is no reason this dog killer should be wandering around free. At the very least he should never be allowed around ANY dog for the rest of his miserable useless life.

  7. Are you kidding? Do you need a building to fall on you all? This thing shot one dog and lied about it and the kills another dog by leaving it in a closed car and you drop the charges? This thing should never have been allowed to have another dog after he killed the lab! Cops get a free pass I guess when they kill their partners! Make no mistake those dogs were both police officers and they deserved better than what they got!

  8. I wonder how many animals he has killed? This is called murder!!!!! The Judge in this case should be in jail also. This so called human being will (if he hasn’t already) will murder a human. What a POS!!!!!!!

  9. So it’s ok to drop charges against him because he’s a police officer? As I recall he was off duty when the dog died. And regarding about Dale did they find a tennis ball down his throat? Did they do an autopsy, checked his lungs? I guess the “code of blue” will continue! Officer Peabody you are a FUCKING POS!

  10. The cop is to protect and service he never did that for the dogs that he had the only reason nothing happened to him is he is a cop

  11. With his history of lies and deaths of dogs WHY DROP ANY CHARGES? They had a chance to actually send a message to this brain dead individual. RIP Dale and Inka. There will be no justice for you.

  12. Il ne devrait plus faire partie de la police ne plus jamais posseder d’animaux et être condamnés à une peine de prison exemplaire. Comment se sentir protéger par un monstre, un assassin ?

  13. Exactly what rock did Cherokee County look under to find Daniel Peabody? Of course, the big blue wall goes up to cover this act of cruelty and he gets off because a judge has his head stuck up his ass – EVERYONE knows leaving an animal in hot car will kill them, BUT Peabody is the exception to the rule – he is a cop, a crappy one for sure – his actions proved it – Good luck Cherokee Co. this is what you got. Next it will be a child.

  14. Twice dogs died while in his care, and twice he lied about the circumstances. I suppose an accident could happen once, although it has never happened to me or anyone I know, but twice seems like a trend. I would not permit this man to own pets, or to work around animals. I am glad to see he is a “former police officer”.

  15. NOT one BUT TWO dogs and he LIED about both. This POS doesn’t value the lives of dogs, not even his own personal dogs/and or Partner (1st case)…I hope this second case is brought up a lot by the prosecuting atty because it is not an acceptable practice to shoot your own dog when you decide it’s their time or whatever his crazyass reason was. He was deceitful in both cases. There is nothing in common with an ex officer and a gentlemen here…what a super creep. criminals and criminals. punish them please. stop dropping charges…and I’m not so sure this guy didn’t leave the first dog in the car on purpose in light of him shooting his other dog months later and lying and saying he choked on a ball. What a serious asshole. animals lives matter COURTS!
