Tragic update on emaciated dog rescued from life on a chain

A tragic update has been released about an emaciated dog who was rescued from a miserable existence on the end of a chain. The dog, dubbed “Ruby,” was taken in by the Ohio SPCA and treated for the multitude of maladies caused by her sad life of neglect.

Unfortunately, despite finally being offered love and care, the toll of being starved for so long claimed her life. ABC 6 reported that Ruby was euthanized on Monday after a surgery was performed to help correct an intestinal issue which had manifested from her ongoing starvation.

The Ohio SPCA notified Facebook followers of the devastating loss shortly after Ruby’s death:

Heaven has gained an angel. At approximately 3:45 a.m. this morning, the battle became too much for Ruby. The heartbreaking decision was made to let her cross the Rainbow Bridge. Victoria was with her and held Ruby close and told her how much she was loved. Three MedVet technicians were also with her. One had a hand on her and the other two held a front paw. Ruby crossed the Bridge peacefully.

The shelter has indicated that they are fighting to see Ruby’s abusers face serious repercussions for the ongoing neglect. The Ohio SPCA stated:

Ruby’s case appears to still not be in the correct hands in order for a felony charge to be filed. We are making sure that it is. Contrary to what a law enforcement official believes, this was serious harm done to a companion animal which means the owner should be charged with a 5th degree felony. Hopefully, we will have more answers by tomorrow. We are not giving up.

How about you get off your butt and rescue. SHAME ON YOU FOR SLAMMING THE RESCUE. THEY GOT THERE AS SOON AS THEY KNEW. You have NO IDEA how heart breaking this is to rescue. We can’t save them all. BUT AT LEAST WE TRY. What do you do? Besides post selfishly.

PATRICIA GREEN. PLEASE WHY ARENT YOU HELPING INSTEAD OF SPOUTING VULGARITIES
        SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

I agree with you Tonya. Obviously what ignorant Patricia doesn’t understand is it can take sometime before a dog is rescued from being chained/tethered. 1)you can’t trespass on someone’s property without permission. 2)most times the owner has to agree to surrender the dog. 3)it’s tough getting law enforcement involved to convince them of negligence and abuse. So Patricia any recommendations????

      • Ernest says:

I 100% agree with Tonya. The time it took to type that hate could have been used to save a life.
My thoughts and prayers go out to those who rescue and those who need rescue.

Wow…who are YOU to write something like this. THEY helped her and showed her love and compassion. You sat on your ass behind a keyboard and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You are what everyone, AND I MEAN EVERYONE, hates about animal rights activists.
There is no room for your hatred anywhere.

SAD to SAY OHIO has INDEED BECOME LIKE a “THIRD WORLD COUNTRY”… Just look up the statistics on crime, animal abuse, unemployment, murder, (DRUG TRAFFICING/ABUSE/DEATH RELATED). Dog Fighting RINGS… This speaks for itself what is becoming of America!!! OUR animals are paying a large part of the price for this type of Activity being allowed to happen…. with our law enforcement either turning their heads ,participating ,or just being apathetic to the whole issue!!!

It’s a heartbreaking loss when a rescue passes away! The people who caused this in the first place must be held accountable! To starve and abuse an animal is unacceptable! This dog went thru hell at the hands of the person or persons entrusted with her care! They must face the consequences of their actions!

Ok kids a little lesson in concepts! First let me preface this by saying I’m a veterinarian I specialize in catastrophic injuries! I travel all over the world using my expertice to save lives! I personally with a few rare exceptions abhor the human race! Hate is not a strong enough word now having said all this let’s begin! Ok human beings have this little thing called free will plus human beings have the ability to reason! Now having said this humans are not capable of evil! Evil is an abstract term! Human beings have the ability to know right and wrong! There in lies the issue! Just because humans know the difference doesn’t mean they make the right choice! So next time you feel the need to describe a human as one or another remember right and wrong stupid smart which one?

Well I am certainly Glad YOU my Dear are not a psychiatrist of Human Beings!!! Because you are “Full of Shit” or as a RN I should be correct in saying feces! Evil does exist! There are numerous humans that actually thrive and are empowered by inflicting pain, slowly killing, torture, maiming. It stimulates them to continue on the path of destruction of lives for nothing else but pure pleasure. Now you are going to tell me that is NOT EVIL? Keep treating the animals… they won’t turn and stab you to death with the scalpel !!!

I don’t know how you can comment that “humans are not capable of evil”…..human are capable of evil. It’s being done every day. What a stupid remark!!!!!

This is in response to Tina I didn’t say humans can’t do evil! Read the my statement I said human beings can’t be the operative word being BE they can do evil they do that every day.

      • tina says:

I never quoted that you commented humans can’t do evil. I quoted your words exactly “HUMANS ARE NOT CAPABLE OF EVIL”. My goodness women may I suggest you re-read your comments.

So people can DO evil but they can’t BE evil? Is that what you are saying? Sort of like the pot calling the kettle black isn’t it? I can’t say as vocabulary has ever been my forte but Evil as an adj. is ” Morally bad or wrong; wicked: an evil tyrant.” as a noun “The quality of being morally bad or wrong; wickedness.” So how is it some people can’t be “evil”? Just wondering.

They did what they could to save this poor angel. She is now where she will never have to endure any pain or neglect again. I am sending my Beau, Buster, Muffin and Jack to play with her and welcome her to the heaven she deserves. I am sickened by the fact she had to endure such a life with her human abusers but they will get what’s coming to them…..TRUST ME!!!! What goes around…..COMES AROUND!!!!

Nail her “owners” feet to the floor and beat them to death with 2x4s. Horrible POS. I hope they die painful deaths and rot in hell for eternity. They take too much space and air.

FYI this may not have anything to do with this dogs death but in Tennessee we have seen 2 cases and maybe more where the dogs look like they are starved. It is actually a fungus that eats at their organs. The Vet sent the samples of tissue to a lab which confirmed fungus had eaten so badly the dog wasn’t getting any nutrients out of their food They were starving to death even with food. I don’t know what is going on but with these two cases it is bad. I was told if caught early it can be treated.

I would assume anyone who was treating their dog for such a fungus would have records and at the very least, a Veterinarian that would back them up. I know dogs can get sick and look like skeletons, My Bear got bit by a snake and in 3 months wasted away to nothing. He was eating and getting care at the time so if anyone had questioned his condition I had the records. It’s highly doubtful this was the case with this poor dog.
