Tragic ending for police K9 Nico

There was a tragic ending for a police K9 who escaped from a kennel at his handler’s home in Lebanon, Indiana. According to the Lebanon Police Department, K9 Nico was killed by a car after he managed to escape from his kennel enclosure.

The dual-purpose K9 was trained to detect drugs, as well as help apprehend suspects. The Department wrote,
When Nico was not chasing after suspects and sniffing out drugs, he was at home with his handler and family.” They added, “Nico was social, caring, and even seemed to be able to sense when someone needed some extra attention. He will be missed.”

WishTV reported that Nico escaped from the outdoor enclosure at his handler’s home on Saturday – he died on Sunday. Nico had been partnered with LPD Officer Tommy Nash for nearly two years.

  1. If Nico was so social why was he outside in a kennel, why wasn’t he in the house with the family? Just sayin………… RIP Nico

  2. How sad, that this has happened. Nico, rest in peace. GOD is there holding you in His Loving Arms, I send my heartfelt sympathies to his handler, Officer Tommy Nash and the officers, in blue. GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS OFFICER TOMMY NASH’

  3. Dogs should not he used to find drugs, a bait and dogs lives at risk! If they can speak, they will never agree to this nonesense!

    • These dogs do good work finding drugs in the hands of criminals. Without them these criminals would continue selling drugs on the street. RIP Nico.

      • Tina I agree! Dogs do so much to better the human life which is why is pisses me off so much that ALL dogs aren’t sufficiently protected from abuse LEGALLY!! Sure there are laws, they arrest and charge those who do harm to dogs and cats but then don’t punish them! I think in all of the many ways that humanity uses dogs to improve the lives of humans they have earned the right to be protected. Thank God dogs are able to detect illegal drugs!

  4. There’s something about this that doesn’t add up. How did Nico get out of his enclosure? That question needs a comprehensive answer.
