The photo of a Los Angeles policeman saving a cat, after rescuing it from the recent wildfires, has gone viral. And if you’re asking why the picture has touched the hearts of so many – it’s simply because most of the men and women in police departments across the United States who protect our rights and safety, also have no qualms when those who cannot speak need help also.

Not only were the police in Los Angeles helping people to evacuate the devastating fires and forcing them to flee their homes losing everything they own, saving their pets were not an option. Our pets are members of our family.

And then came the photo and the brief explanation as an officer ran down the street with a fluffy kitty cradled in his arms:

“For some it might just be a cat. But to others it’s a friend, a loved one, a companion,” the department tweeted. “The LAPD has a motto – “To protect and to Serve” and our officers have been displaying that in many different says during the #Creek Fire & #SkirballFire.”

The tweet has been shared thousands of times.

The cat has been reunited with his family.

In a random act of kindness, a young man stopped on Highway 1 in southern California earlier this week as the Thomas Fire spread to nearby wooded areas when it crossed the road. A man, who has refused to be identified, chased a small wild rabbit finally able to capture it and save it from the deadly flames. The brave rescue was caught on video by a news reporter.

“Dude! You just restored my faith in humanity. May you be forever blessed,” someone wrote on Facebook. Read the heartwarming story here and watch the video.

GOD bless this officer…..anyone I mean anyone – officer whatever expects people to leave behind there animals are NOT human….a life is a life shame on anyone who doesn’t think animals should be saved as well as humans…..this man has compassion (which is not really seen in this world lately) so glad he saved this baby and he was back with his family…he is a hero and his fellow officers should follow in the foot steps!!!!!

  3. It is refreshing to know there are some cops who consider animals as important as humans when in dire need of rescuing – Thank you officer for ensuring the cat was rescued and taken to safety.
