In Bay Pines, Florida, a young child trick-or-treater was bitten by a family’s dog after the child is thought to have turned the door knob to the front door where Lucy the dog lived. Reacting to a stranger coming to her home, the dog jumped on the toddler and bit him. According to Fox News, the injuries to the child were minor. The child had knocked on the door, and when no one answered turned the handle causing the door to open

Fortunately the three-year-old child and the dog were separated quickly. A neighbor Kelly Nelms told Fox News reporters she rushed over to help:

“He had some cuts on his face his little brother was freaking out the man was freaking out. They saw a little boy open up their front door and the dog was doing what dogs do and protecting their house,” Kelly stated. “I wouldn’t let my child walk up to anybody’s door by themselves and be the parent out in the street.”

Investigators have confirmed the youngster turned the knob in his exuberance while visiting homes on Halloween evening. His parents had remained on the street as the children approached the home.

Meanwhile, Lucy has to be spend the next ten days in quarantine at animal services and be separated from her family. Hopefully she will be returned to her home without being classified as a dangerous dog. There are no plans at this time to charge the dog’s owner, Damian Romero, who arrived home shortly after the dog attacked the child. He told police he left his front door unlocked but it was closed and secure.

Witnesses say several other children had visited Lucy’s home before the child was attacked and the front door remained secure.

  1. This IS A CLASSIC CASE of the Poor Animal getting the blame for HUMAN ERROR !!! Good GOD this totally the fault of the parents… They NEED to train their CHILDREN!!!!

  2. These parents are idiots to allow their toddler to open a neighbor’s door…… if no one is home, go onto the next house…..(“common sense”, which it seems, is not so common these days)…..

No blame on the dog who was doing the job of protecting the family home……

100% blame on idiot parents…… they should bear 100% of any and all costs associated with this incident.

If the parents had been more careful, this incident would not have happened……

  3. “Toddlers” should be taught you do not go into someone’s home unless the home’s owners open the door and invite you in. Why a child of this age wasn’t accompanied to the door by the parents is anyone’s guess. I hope and pray Lucy isn’t labeled a “vicious” dog, I’m thankful that the child wasn’t hurt seriously, and I bet the kid won’t be opening someone else’s door again.

  4. No way should the dog in any way be blamed for this unfortunate incident. The parents of the child are the ones who are at fault for allowing a small child to approach anyone’s home without them being right next to him. I hope Lucy is released ASAP and returned to her family – she did nothing wrong.

  5. THE IDIOT PARENTS DIDN’T SEE THE KID TURNING THE KNOB? WHAT THE HELL IS THE KID TURNING THE KNOB IF NOBODY ANSWERED. I AM TIRED OF IT ALWAYS BEING THE ANIMAL. I DOUBT IF THIS IS A TWO YEAR OLD WHO TURNED THE KNOB. SO RELEASE THE DOG AND STOP BLAMING ANIMALS BLAME THE PARENTS WHO WEREN’T PAYING ATTENTION. I DOUBT IF THEY TOLD THE KID TO TAKE HIS /HER HAND OFF THE KNOB SINCE THEY DIDN’T SEE SHIT.L

  6. I’m sorry the child got bitten, but Lucy was only doing her job, protecting her home. Lucy should be released and given back to her owner. However, the adults should know better. First, the owner should lock his front door when leaving his home. Next time an intruder might walk through the door and kill Lucy. Second, the child’s parent should accommodate the boy to the stranger’s home, and not just stay in the street watching. You don’t know whose behind that door. I’m just sorry Lucy had to be quarantined and might lose her home because of adults’ stupidity.

  7. Let’s pray the parents of this child does not decide to get a lawyer and sue this family as well as have the dog permanently removed. How stupid of the parents to wait on the street while their young child opens the front door even though no one answered his first knock. Parents go the extra mile to walk from house to house with their children, but yet have no concerns with their children opening a closed door. Dogs are the same level as a child in many cases, so parents need to always be aware if a dog is present in that house. We all hope that when someone rings our doorbell and we can grab our dog to make sure they either don’t try to get out the door, or in the case of “defending” their home, something like this happening.

    • Lucy’s family should sue the parent’s of the toddler. Poor Lucy locked up for 10 days because of the idiot parents. I hope she’s okay afterwards.

  8. Wtf was wrong with the parents? A 3 yr old should be accompanied with his parents not the parents watching from the street. Parents also need to teach their children you don’t walk into other people’s home.

  9. Not Lucy’s fault but the idiot parents who allowed a 3 year old to walk up to a door unattended! Watching the child from the street is simply not acceptable with a child that young, and you have to wonder about people who never thought about children who might open the doors of people they don’t even know!

What’s with some of these younger parents anyway? It’s truly terrifying the way some of today’s youngsters are being raised, or, more precisely, NOT being raised.

  10. This dog better be given back to his owners AT NO COST!!! How do you stand in the street and allow your 3 year old child to approach a home alone?!??!!? THREE YEARS OLD?

  11. Euthanise that pit bull before it kills a child! I say its owner is lying to protect his pitraptor mauler! That’s what they all do and then they adopt a new pit bull 5 days after euthanasia and repeat the same mistakes!

Eight-year-old Emma Warren was looking for her siblings outside her Northumberland County home when a pit bull rushed up to her and grabbed her by the arm.

The Carrolls Crossing girl managed to get away, but the attack left her with injuries to her arm and backside that required stitches.

Now, her parents say they’re afraid it could happen again and are calling for stricter animal control laws for rural areas.

Jaimie Warren, Emma’s father, said if their neighbour hadn’t scared the dog away, the attack could have been much worse.

“I don’t think she would have been here,” he said. “That dog would’ve ripped her limb from limb.
