Animal advocates are investigating a disturbing discovery, after finding more than 1,800 day-old chicks abandoned in a field and left to die in central England’s Peterborough. According to Inspector Justin Stubbs for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, he has “never seen anything like it,” after concerned passersby alerted him on Friday to the “sea of yellow” birds.Tiny chicks dumped 2

“I have never seen anything like it; it was just a sea of yellow. And the noise was unbelievable,” stated Inspector Justin Stubbs, reports the BBCNews.“For someone to dump these vulnerable chicks is unbelievable. These chicks were just all huddled together, just a mass, a writhing mass of cheeping yellow fluffy balls, where they shouldn’t be, in conditions they should not be out in.”Tiny chicks dumped 3

About 30 of the baby chicks had already died; others had to be euthanized because they were suffering; still most were healthy. Although it is not known who dumped the tiny little ones, it is thought they came from a nearby commercial produced and had been abandoned by a third party. Volunteers in the area found boxes and carefully picked the vulnerable little ones up as temperatures plummeted. A nearby breeder has collected the surviving chicks and is caring for them.

An investigation continues.

  1. This is attempted murder on a grand scale! To dump all these chicks is reprehensible! The fact no one saw who did this is quite unbelievable! I’m glad the little fuzz balls for the most part have survived! But I hope they didn’t survive this only to be slaughtered in the name of food!

    • Solveig, please pray for the lives of the chickens who were relinquished to the great coop in the sky. May we all come together to mourn the loss of His great creations.
