Texas teen charged with shooting and killing bald eagle

In Harris County, Texas, a 17-year-old teenager is out on bail after allegedly shooting and killing a bald eagle. On Wednesday, Orlando David Delgado faced charges for hunting without the landowner’s consent after shooting a bald eagle to death Tuesday in the Woodland Oaks neighborhood.

According to Click2Houston,  authorities stated a witness spotted three males standing near the base of a tree where an American bald eagle had nested for five years. One of the men carried a rifle. Several shots were fired, and then the men left in a white pickup truck, but not before plucking a feather from the body of the bird. The witness identified Orlando David Delgado as the shooter – the teen allegedly admitted to authorities he shot the eagle with a high-powered Gamo pellet rifle.

Residents in the area are heartbroken; they had been watching the eagle for over five years nesting in the same place with her mate. The birds were affectionately named Steve and Mary. Because of Delgado’s age, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declined to prosecute, even though killing a bald eagle is a federal crime.  Game warden H.R. Volschenk of Texas Parks and Wildlife said Delgado would be charged with hunting without a landowner’s consent, a class A misdemeanor. Why anyone would shoot such a magnificent bird symbolizing America is unknown, but truly shameful.

Well even though this is the Land of Freedom of speech my post was removed from the site. because I questioned just why the United States Game and Fish Agency refused to prosecute this ( fine young male youth that is of a different race). Now tell me what do you thing the United States Game and Fish would do to Me. a 68 year old white woman born in the USA if I shot and was witnessed killing the American Bald Eagle… My eyes would not see the light of day for a long time and my bank account would be eliminated on legal fees and fines !!! God Bless America!!!

“Because of Delgado’s age, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declined to prosecute, even though killing a bald eagle is a federal crime”. BS! he is 17 years old and old enough to know better, he broke the law and was trespassing to boot! He gets away with this and he is free to do it again! I’m beginning to think some Texan’s are nothing more than gun toting thugs willing to shoot and kill anything! This POS certainly is!

Another perfect example of a useless government agency who does nothing to protect an animal that is part of the American heritage – So what if he is 17 years old, he did this on purpose and should be federally prosecuted BUT he was allowed to go right on w/his life and will do this again – assured.

I don’t give a damn how old this piece of human garbage is! This is a federal crime for a reason, and this filthy scumbag took a DUMP in the eye of every one of us when he killed our national symbol! How anyone could shoot one of these magnificent birds is something I can’t understand, but I could understand if the people in that neighborhood wanted to take him out- no loss there.

First off 17 is old enough to be charged as an adult! So that doesn’t fly! Let me see the green card for this thing and the other 2 things that were with him! They knew that those birds were there and they intentionally killed that eagle! Then to add insult to injury they pluck a feather from this magnificent raptor!

The Endangered Species Act is being gutted, along with the EPA. We can expect more cases like this. Of course, the fact that he took a feather from the dead bird shows it was intentional. He wanted a “trophy”. He’s 17 – old enough to be tried as an adult, and therefore should be. But, as several other people pointed out, it’s Texas. They have one of the worst track records when it comes to the welfare of animals (companion and wild, both)

It’s a Federal Crime!!!! Why isn’t he prosecuted for Murdering a protected Animal, and mercilessly taking one of a bonded pair for a feather! And is he a legal citizen….sick, totally sick, and wasted life of a magnificent Bird. That kid should be turned over to the Fed’s and prosecuted

He’s 17. He would be charged as an adult if he killed a person. He is old enough to face the consequences of his actions. I say LOCK HIM UP.
