This week, a television crew, covering the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, found a young possum shivering in the rain in downtown Houston, Texas. According to the Miami Herald, it was NBC Dallas reporter Brian Curtis who spotted the exhausted animal who was huddled on a bridge, trying to survive the never-ending deluge of rain.

The image of the tired opossum was circulated widely on social media and many people expressed outrage that the crew merely filmed the animal, rather than offering him help. Upset animal lovers may be the reason that the NBC News link about the sad situation is no longer available

There is, however, hope that the possum was helped. A post was made to Facebook indicating that rescuers were going to be dispatched to the bridge to search for the tired animal.

No word on the possum’s ultimate fate. This creature, like so many others, helpless in the wrath of the massive storm which continues to dump rain.

  1. I sign hope they found this poor little soul and brought him to safety…Wish the film crew had helped him…He looks exhausted…
    ..

    • these are just idiots chasing news, think they don’t have a good heart.
So disgusting, hope the poor animal has been rescued out of his horrible conditioning..

  2. AWWWE put down the camera and help the fellow, come on!! What the hell is wrong with people. It’s somebody else’s problem. Such APATHY! I sure hope the rescue crew found him and helped him.

  3. I read a news crew filmed and left a swimming dog, too. They don’t seem to realize they are leaving a permanent record, and making an impression on their viewers they may not want.

  4. Even if they were concerned that touching or grabbing the animal might be a bigger problem, they never said they would call emergency animal center in the area. What fools these news people are.

  5. Sweet Jesus – the lack of compassion this news crew showed to an animal who desperately needed help is despicable, cruel and inhumane – this poor animal desperately needed help and instead this bunch of jerks filmed its suffering for ratings – absolutely vile.

    • Its a freaking opossum and adaptable to this. You should be asking sweet Jesus about cats,
strays and pets who were never ment to live out doors
And suffer greatly on a good day.
Let alone after or during a hurricane

  6. Dont worry about this guy Hes a full grown virginia opossume he floated here by iceberg from another continent.hes a great swimmer has thumbs on his feet can climb anything and can hang from his tail.
What your seeing is an animal echoes den flooded and he floated until he could climb above water. He s freaked out enough and now a camera crew is threatening him.
    His worst day ever.
He’ll be ok. And he’ll tell his grand children.
