In Collinsville, Illinois, a teenager faces animal cruelty charges after he thought punching a donkey in the face was amusing and then posting the nasty deed on Twitter. According to Fox News, Luis Dietrich, 19, has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty; cruel treatment of animals and depiction of animal cruelty.
“He thought it would be funny to hurt an animal,” stated Carol Frerker, the director of the Willoughby Heritage Farm and Conservation Reserve, a public farm where people come to meet the animals located in the Collinsville Recreation District. “We usually don’t have any problems, but when we do they get caught one way of another. Ninety-nine percent of people are coming out for a good reason. We don’t tolerate it when they don’t.”
The incident occurred on Sunday with a 13-year-old miniature donkey named Amore. She had been grazing peacefully in a small paddock when Dietrich allegedly punched her. He then posted the video to Twitter – an irate viewer reported the tweet to the Collinsville Police. Authorities did find the video on Dietrich’s phone. His bail has been set at $50,000. No motive has been given as to why he punched the animal.
As for Amore, the donkey who arrived to the farm in September has been checked out by veterinarians and is doing fine. Staff members have been giving her extra attention – and that’s only to be expected.
