A 16-year-old teenager has confessed to shooting a family’s yellow Lab through the chest with an arrow reports the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. The Wooster, Ohio youth claimed he saw the dog in the brush when he had been out hunting deer and thought the animal was a coyote.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the 9-year-old dog named Cosmo, belongs to Chatfield and Christine Redick family. When they found their dog, Cosmo was rushed into surgery and luckily survived and went home the next day. After the arrow was removed, the teen’s last name was on the arrow, and when questioned he admitted to shooting the dog.

When Cosmo was found along Lattasburg, his owners couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to hurt their dog. The Lab had run out of his yard just before the incident. Cleveland 5 News reports that charges are pending against the youth, and the case is being sent to the Wayne County juvenile prosecutor. The dog’s owners don’t believe it was an accident.

“Violence towards pets is something we are not going to take lightly. Hunters do not pursue domestic animals and whoever committed this crime is nothing more than a common criminal. We will do everything we can to hold him accountable,” stated the sheriff’s office Captain Doug Hunter.

Cosmo is one lucky pooch – the arrow narrowly missed his heart and lungs. He is back at home recovering. Get well soon Cosmo.

  1. No way in HELL that bastard thought the dog was a coyote! That’s the excuse gun / bow and arrow crazy malevolent filth use when they CHOOSE to shoot family pets knowingly despite the fact that the pet doesn’t even resemble the animal in question!

If someone is vile enough to shoot a dog, his license should be taken away for life! This psycho needs to be locked up, and frankly, I wish the filth could be used for target practice so the POS could learn EXACTLY what it feels like to be shot with an arrow.

  2. Does he not know what a coyote look like??? That poor dog doesn’t even look like a coyote!!!! He’s an idiot and did this on purpose!!

  3. I have 2 Yellow Labs – I would never in a MILLION years mistake them for a coyote. The POS who shot him is a lying sack of shit. Of course, his name isn’t released because he’s a juvenile. Disgusting.

  4. I maybe could understand someone mistaking a German Shepherd for a Coyote, but a Yellow Lab? NO! I don’t believe this was an accident either, if the POS can’t tell the difference between a Yellow Lab and a Coyote he needs to have his “bow and arrows” taken away along with his license. Get well soon Como I hope there is some justice in this for your family!

  5. THIS is what happens when “children” are given unfettered access to weapons of ANY kind: They head off to kill something – ANYTHING – for “sport”!
This lyin’ little som’bitch needs prosecution and incarceration – in addition to making FULL restitution…
Thank GOD this precious companion survived!

  6. There is no way a yellow lab could be mistaken for a coyote…..this kid is just looking for a excuse….why would a 16 year old boy be out alone with a bow and arrow….unsupervised????? That’s the question that needs to be answered and the family should pay the medical expenses also….I bet they won’t let that kid out again by himself.

  7. That baby looks NOTHING like a coyote; So that punk is a LITTLE LYING EVIL FUCK! Gee … I wonder if I mistook him for a practice dummy (and he sure is that). Can I shoot him in the head with an arrow or bullet?

  8. In my opinion, this was a disgusting and intentional act of cruelty to animals. This young boy should spend time in a juvenile facility. In addition, the parents should be fined for their stupidity in allowing their son to possess a bow and arrow! Disgusting. Examples should be made of this kid and of the parents.

  9. That’s BS. There is NO way this dog looks even remotely like a coyote. While I don’t even believe in hunting, it is legal most places. BUT, I think that anyone who is given a hunting license (did this kid even have one? Children don’t always need one, but at 16 I would think he would have) should have to take some basic training. How to handle the gun/bow, how to identify things like wolves and coyotes vs. dogs, and even safety measures so they don’t shoot another person. I’m glad the dog is going to be okay, but the kid and his family should have to pay for any vet bills.

  10. In my heart, the boy thought he had shot a coyote ONLY BECAUSE HE DIDNT WANT TO GO TO JAIL!!! HE SHOULD GO TO JAIL AND STAY THERE! WHAT KIND OF PERSON ACTUALLY SHOOTS A DOG WITH AN ARROW!!!!!!!!! HIS BEHAVIOUR IS DISGUSTING!!!! IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME!!!! I HOPE AND PRAY THAT THE DOG WILL BE 1000% AND BETTER, IN NOW TIME FLAT!!!!!

  11. This punk did not care WHAT he shot – he just wanted to shoot anything that moved. Thank God Cosmo has recovered – and his family should be suing this teenage idiot’s family for ALL the medical bills. This kid needs a massive wake up call – hopefully a court hearing will do the trick AND throw out that damn bow and arrow. This kid has no right to ever be near one again.

  12. I call BS that he thought that the Labrador was a coyote. Labradors don’t look anything like a coyote. He shouldn’t be out “hunting” any sort of animal, even with a bow and arrow(s), if he can’t properly identify what he is shooting at. Just an excuse to try to get off any charge(s).
