Farrah Abraham, 25, of Teen Mom fame, has run into a ton of online media criticism from animal lovers this week, after posting a photo of her daughter’s miniature pony painted with pink and purple neon hearts on her body and her mane.

“That’s animal abuse she should be taken away from u!”, one person commented on Instagram while someone else added, “That poor horse, you’re a horrible selfish human being!”

And this was the general reaction to Abraham’s eight-year-old daughter, Sophia’s birthday party as the themes Beauty and the Beast and My Little Pony involved more than a bunch of little friends dressed up – runway style. Sure there was an amazing birthday cake, beauty treatments for the little girls and even Belle – who walked down the fake red carpet. As much as that might seem a bit extravagant, lavish birthday parties for children are rarely scoffed at – that is if it doesn’t include using an animal as a prop. In this case, it was Sophia’s miniature pony Starburst who the child received as a Christmas present.

According to InTouch, concerns just weren’t addressed for Abraham’s poor judgment as to using a living animal as an art easel, but the safety of the pony may have been even more important:

“Considering her age, she could have gotten paint in the pony’s eyes or ears or the pony could have ingested the paint/fumes,” one concerned commenter wrote. Another added, “Definite animal abuse. What is wrong with these people?”

Farrah became pregnant when she was 16; giving birth to Sophia when she was 17. Sophia’s father, Derek, was killed in a car crash eight months into Farrah’s pregnancy. As to the criticism, Abraham shrugged it off stating the paint was probably pet friendly and kept posting pictures of the birthday party – even with Starburst painted with pink and purple neon hearts on her coat and streaked through her mane. Did I mention the white pony also  wore pink leg warmers?

  1. This is why certain people should not be allowed to have animals! This is not the way you treat a horse wether it be mini or not! There is no such thing as pet friendly paint! All paints have additives that are harmful to animals! She is a child who had a child and now thinks she knows everything! Well sweetness in this case you know less than nothing! You don’t paint animals period! Kathleen Drude DVM

    • Definitely not a good idea to paint a horse….. Also of concern is WHERE does this animal live? Is proper veterinary care and farrier care provided? Unless one has experience with horses, one doesn’t know about their unique needs. I seriously doubt that this mom has done any research on caring for a miniature horse. I feel sorry for this animal and hope that when the family tires of providing the necessary care, this horse does not end up at a kill auction (to be sold for ~$0.50/pound for meat & transported to Canada or Mexico for slaughter)…….

  2. After the horrible things we see people doing to animals, I am finding it hard to be too overly concerned about a pony being painted with hearts for a birthday party. This isn’t something I would do but most likely ( I hope at least ) the paint was pet safe and was washed off after the party. This pony wasn’t being beaten, starved, abandoned or any other way abused so I will save my indignation for the monsters that really deserve it.

  3. I noticed the mini pon is not tethered and looks like its enjoying the pomp and circumstance. And glad to be a part of the goings on. Hanging with the silly frilly little girls. Its there because it wants to be.
    Lighten up ya squares!

  4. IF she used pet-friendly “paint”, it’s not that bad. However, I do wonder if any of the party guests – or the birthday girl herself – tugged on the pony. Kids can get rough with an animal they see as a toy. Also, with all the excitement, it could have been very stressful for the pony. Assuming it wasn’t actually animal abuse, it was still very poor judgement and downright stupid. I don’t watch shows like “Teen Mom”, but I suspect this mom has had bad judgement for most of her life.

  5. OK, so it’s all fine and dandy if you are a celebrity. Many little fufu dogs with diamond collars and pink tufts. Really people ????.
Or Halloween, decorated animals. Get over it, let them enjoy their fun. Be concerned if some 200 pound ninny was trying to ride the pony. Or if the pony was actually being abused…

  6. Farah Abraham has proven her lack of mental capability by allowing this to happen – her statement said ‘the paint is PROBABLY’ pet friendly so she doesn’t know. Hopefully, it was pet friendly but this douchebag could care less as long as it was fun for her daughter.

  7. She has no biz having that pony. Her and her kid are wicked and cruel. She doesn’t appear to have proper shelter. The horse probley stands in that crappie back yard day and night. It has no other horse to interact with. PLEASE FARAH SELL THE HORSE OR TAKE IT BACK. Surely the novelty has worn off. I am going to alert all entities in your town that are involved in animal welfare.

  8. So I guess those people who paint horses with musculature or skeletal designs should be charged with abuse as well. OMFG get over yourselves!! This pony looks healthy and loved WTF is wrong with people? Have you seen the pony with feet over a foot long? The horse who didn’t need a skeleton drawn on him because you could see every bone in his body because he was starved near to death? I think a bit of bright paint and sparkles is not going to kill this pony. Hurrah for a happy birthday party, and Booo to you party poopers. Get a scoop and move along.
