Old dog shakes in cement kennel run

A senior dog, surrendered by her family, is having a tough time in her cement kennel run at the Los Angeles Animal Services – North Central Shelter in California. The 13-year-old pit bull mix, named “Shakira,” has been at the facility since July 8 and the weeks of confinement are taking a toll.

On Tuesday, Susie’s Senior Dogs featured Shakira and described the physical challenges this old girl is facing outside of a real home:

She is not at all comfortable there; and due to her severe arthritis poor Shakira can only stand for short periods of time. Her legs may ache and shake, but her capacity to love is as strong as ever.

A shelter volunteer wrote:

“At 13 years of age, sweet Shakira finds herself at North Central Shelter in Los Angeles. This kind-hearted girl has been described by her former owners as socialized with kids, other dogs, and cats. Shakira was surrendered because the family stated they could not afford medical. It’s so sad! We do have a shelter intervention program to assist the family, but perhaps they had already tried that or they chose not to.

Shakira needs to be enjoying her golden years in the comfort of a home…with people who want to shower her with love and kindness. Please help this senior dog find comfort and love by taking a moment to network her adoption information.

To adopt Shakira, please email North Central Animal Shelter volunteer, Lara, at adoptfostervolunteer@gmail.com with any questions. Please also include animal ID# A1713583. Petharbor link here.

North Central Animal Shelter is located at 3201 Lacy St, Los Angeles, CA.

  1. Of course they gave Shakira up. Why would they want to pay money for the care a senior dog needs. So much easier to bring these dogs to a shelter instead of paying for their vet needs. POS owners!

  2. And of course, these piss poor examples of owners never attempted to do anything for Shakira other than dump her – she deserved MUCH better than to be treated like an object to be thrown out. PLEASE some senior dog rescue step up and help her OR some very kind person adopt her and give her the safe loving home she so well deserves and never had.

  3. This poor old girl! I just checked her Facebook page and she is still waiting. I hope someone will be in the position to step up and give Shikira the loving home she deserves in her last years. Really, really heartbreaking.
