A Suffolk County man convicted in the past of beating a dog with a baseball bat was charged on Wednesday with having sex with horses earlier this year police reported on Thursday. According to the New York Daily News, detectives checking on Steven Errante after he failed to register for the Suffolk County Animal Abuse Offender Registry, arrested him for sexual misconduct with horses.
Errante was arrested in 2013 for raping a dog and then beating the animal with a baseball bat; registering as an animal abuser had been part of his sentence. The Rottweiler-Labrador retriever mix suffered fractures to her head and face; she also had a broken leg. Sadly her injuries were so severe, doctors at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island were forced to humanely euthanize the dog named Chantel Girl. Animal advocates from across the country followed the dog’s tragic story and her incredible will to survive. Sadly it was not to be.
“Thank you all for your kindness, prayers, concern and support,” the veterinary hospital posted on their Facebook when Chantel Girl died. “It is a reminder to us all that from an awful act such as this, that we still must have faith in humanity.’
Investigators from the Special Victims Section discovered Errante had sexual contact with horses on August 25 and September 4 at the Dix Hills Stable. Errante has been charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with an animal and failing to check in with the Animal Abuse Offenders Registry.
