Imagine the smile on her family’s faces when they named their sweet Golden Retriever puppy Starlight? Just the name reminds us of watching the clear night skies and making wishes as distant shooting stars traversed  the unexplored universe. And for a decade, loyal canine pal, Starlight stretched out contented next to her family; happily dreaming all those things dogs get to dream. Sadly, reality bites and one day the scared senior – now ten-years-old is no longer wanted and winds up at a high kill animal shelter in California.

And on April 29, with the Carson Animal Care shelter completely full, Starlight’s life suddenly fell apart:

“Sweet little STARLIGHT is 10 and her family brought her to the shelter because they said she is Ill and they couldn’t afford her care. She needs help NOW, she is very confused.”

Click here for Starlight’s Pet Harbor listing. “My name is Starlight and I am described as a spayed female, gold Golden Retriever mix. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old. I have been at the shelter since Apr 29, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566. Ask for information about animal ID number A4440312. A Facebook page for this dog can be followed here.

Medical records for Starlight indicate her teeth are worn down,  has ocular opacity, red tinged diarrhea, vomiting and presents with a mass on her lateral thorax. Her previous owners stated the dog has been losing weight over the last two months. A veterinarian examination would be needed to complete any diagnosis for this dog. Although scared, Starlight remains very friendly.

Share this dog’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Whether this dog has one day, one week or one year left to live, doesn’t she deserve more than just being surrendered to a shelter? Perhaps her family couldn’t afford the expense if her health needs are complicated and expensive, but isn’t there always just a little extra money to make sure the dog who has been a loyal and loving part of someone’s family isn’t alone on her final journey? Advocates have been pledging funds to help this sweet dog. Who will step up and be Starlight’s hero?

  1. PLEASE rescue Starlight – apparently this so called ‘family’ did not care enough about her to take her to a veterinarian – no, they just dumped her in a kill shelter – senior dogs make wonderful pets, I truly hope someone will take her home – she desperately needs medical help – Starlight deserves a safe loving home.

  2. These “So-Called ” pet lovers… are as far as I am concerned are Guppy Generation Complete Assholes!!! Just wait until the husband or wife has a serious medical ::: the other one will file for divorce , clean out the savings, checking, antiques, and Be long gone!!! Actually as it should be in this case. the Lion is the Victor!!! The loving Lab named Starlight who gave them unconditional LOVE ,Companionship for the better part of her life WAS TOSSED LIKE THE VERY TRASH THESE PEOPLE ARE!!! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!

  3. That sweet, sad face and confused eyes…. bless her sweet heart…. someone please rescue, adopt, pull, SAVE THIS BEAUTY!

  4. Yes that’s soo sad. I hope that family has karma come back and bite them in the ass. Poor pooch…she needs help…someone please adopt the sweetie even to find out how sick she is and how much time she does have

  5. Why didn’t they just have her euthanized if she was so sick? Why dump her in a place like Carson where most likely she will be put to sleep anyway. I don’t know if they took her to a vet to see what was wrong with her or just assumed they couldn’t afford the treatment. I will pray some good people will pull her and give her the love she deserves in her final days, that is more than her “loving family” did!

  6. This is not how you treat a faithful friend, who has given nothing but love! She is ill and you take her to a high kill shelter? What the hell? Im so tired of people using the shelter as a dumping ground for these older kids! You dont send your loving kid to die alone among strangers!

  7. This pet needs a loving comforable home and friendly surroundings, irregardless of her medical condition.,

  8. OMG! My heart is so broken for this absolutely beautiful dog!! I can’t wrap my brain around dumping a family pet in a kill shelter and the fact that she is sick makes this cruel act that more egregious! Dear God how I wish I could financially afford to swoop in and give this very deserving beauty a loving home! I have three seniors and their vet care is so costly. I reside with my 83yr old Dad because I have medical issues that prevent me from working,he would NEVER allow me to take in a fourth fur baby! If I was living alone in my own home I would immediately bring this girl into my home and would and could find a way to get this sweetheart medical care because when there is a will there is a way!! Such an absolute shame that when her mass was noticed that she didn’t get immediate vet care! I will one day have an and inheritance and I do not require a lot of money to exist so I WILL be using that money to help unwanted dogs,if I had that money right now Starllight would be in my possession by nightfall! Does the AMAZING RESCUE DOGS ROCK NYC know about Starlight and her plight? This sweet dog would be an amazing treasure to anyone lucky enough to own her! I will be tormented by this fur baby’s plight from this moment on! Praying, praying, praying for her to be saved! OMG WHY?????? WHY???? I’m rambling now, guess it’s a way to relieve my angst over the heartache I feel for all the unwanted, unloved, abused and neglected dogs out there that want nothing more than to loved and cared for. PLEASE SAVE STARLIGHT!!! OMG PLEASE!!!!

  9. Are there not Golden Retrever rescues out there that can be made aware of Starlight? Because I’m not tech savvy I don’t know how to share the stories of these homeless dogs to the rescues out there. I need to find somebody to show me how to do this because sharing saves lives!! OMG I want this beautiful senior! PLEASE SAVE HER!!!

  10. Karma to the Family that Surrendered this Senior Dog. I hope this Beautiful Dog gets a Happy Home where She will be Loved.

  11. Very happy. She needs love and comfort. Thank you. Though she’s in “SAFE” album, is she out of the shelter and with a foster, clinic or family. Please update.
