The Spanish areas of the Balearic Islands which includes Majorca, Minorca and Ibiza passed new legislation on Monday ending some of the bullfighting misery by banning matadors from killing bulls in the arenas and have made it illegal for the animals to endure physical or psychological damage. The province in now one of several in Spain that continue to move forward with laws banning the egregious blood “sport.” In 1991, the Canary Islands, a law passed to protect bulls including a clause against animal abuse in bullfights or local fiestas.
According to Reuters, the law demands bullfighters and bulls to be tested for drugs both before and after the fight. Bullfights will be limited to a maximum of ten minutes, a parliament spokesman said. In the past, bullfights in Spain involved six specially bred bulls in fights against matadors for 20 to 3o minutes. The matadors would then drive a sword through the bulls’ shoulders and stab them through their hearts. The new legislation states the bulls will be vet checked after the fight and returned to the ranch where they were raised.
In 2016, the Balearic Islands tried to ban the practice, however Spain’s constitutional court put an end to the action ruling they did not have the authority to ban the sport. Although the new law is not a complete ban, it is a victory for advocates fighting against the disturbing animal cruelty inflicted upon the bulls in the past.
In Spain, bullfights, which have been deeply embedded into the country’s culture – “la fiesta nacional” continue to lose steam in popularity as an increasing amount of public outcry demands the blood sport to finally come to an end.

OMG! While not perfect by any means, it’s a start to completely ending this depraved and despicable so called sport! Anyone who participates,endorses and enjoys watching this sickening,cruel torture is lacking most,if not all brain cells and has ZERO morals or ethics! Waiting for the day when it’s completely outlawed! I say go rent a movie like Chainsaw Massacre and watch the blood flow on ur tv screen if ur that thirsty for bloodshed! SMH
