Little six-pound Astro didn’t have much to celebrate on the 4th of July weekend. A Good Samaritan found him wandering aimlessly in a New York City cemetery; the little dog suffered an injury to his eye. When Astro was brought to the New York City Animal Care Center, staff members called Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for assistance. Little Astro had already won the hearts of shelter workers and volunteers; as frightened as he was, he allowed the counselors to pick him up, examine him and rush him back to the medical section of the shelter.

As Rescue Dogs Rock NYC made immediate arrangements for Astro to be transferred to their partner veterinarian, the tiny dog with the huge personality would have to come face to face with a fight for his life:

“DVM Intake Exam (Estimated age: 5-7)
Subjective: severe periphral lymphadenopathy, SMLN, prescap, popliteal, inguinal and random LN along thorax. OS>OD infiltrative process. OS eye is opaque, OD aqueous flare/ hyphema present”

Sadly, Astro has been diagnosed with lymphoma, but veterinarians want to give him a chance, and he will be starting chemotherapy next week. What is most needed now is a volunteer in the Brooklyn area to foster Astro and bring him weekly to the veterinarian hospital. All expenses for his treatment will be paid by the rescue. If interested, please contact Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.

Check out the strange fish that actually looks like a piece of coral. Amazing to say the least.
