Sickly dog is being allowed to stay with family

A sickly dog, obviously underweight and not in the best health, is being allowed to stay with her family – at least for the time being, reports Fox 31 Denver. The condition of the seemingly neglected 10-year-old boxer, named “Estrella,” was brought to the attention of the local Denver animal control agency because neighbors were concerned that she was dying.

Denver Animal Protection investigator Daniel Ettinger described the senior dog’s current condition, “One being extremely emaciated, nine being overly obese. And you look at this dog, without getting hands on it, probably 1.5 out of nine.” In addition to being underweight, Estrella is suffering from an eye infection and she has open sores on her legs.

Why, you may ask, is she still with her family? According to Denver Animal Protection, a dog’s owners have the right to provide their pet with care – and so far, Estrella’s family is doing what has been asked of them. Ettinger stated, “We will do what’s right in this situation and and we have to allow the dog owner to do what’s right and so far they are.” Ettinger noted that the situation often boils down to educating the dog’s owner about proper care – rather than seizing a pet from his or her family.

The animal welfare agency is monitoring the situation and they have stated that they will step in on Estrella’s behalf if necessary.

  1. Terrible!!! Just turn your head and allow this “family” to kill their poor dog!!!!!! Shameful!!!!!!!!! That dog needs to be taken now before its too late

  2. From what I’ve seen, Boxers tend to be thin BUT a 1.5 condition is not good. I’ve also seen cases of older dogs that are thin in spite of being well fed and it’s because of their age plus they’re losing muscle mass which tends to make them look thinner. I hope I don’t sound like I’m defending the owners…..it sounds like they’re cooperating now but only because they’re being monitored. I hope Estrella can make a full recovery and her family is now better educated.

    • I an sorry to tell you boxes are not thin I have 2 of them . My big one is 85lb. And other one is 68lb. And there are fat . My vet love them. My old boxer is 7 yrs and no muscle mass gone. So I don’t know who dogs you be looking at . If you take good care of them. Than don’t look like that. If you see a dog that look like that call the animals control .Shame on her owner , they know you have to feed them. Someone should not give them food.

  3. GOD BLESS THIS BEAUTIFUL DOG AND ALL LOVING ANIMALS WITH WONDERFUL LOVING FOREVER HOMES AND HEALTHY BODIES!!! WE ALSO PRAY THAT ANYONE WHO HURTS OR KILLS LOVING ANIMALS WILL BE SENT TO HELL BY GOD AND JESUS!!! AMEN!!!!!!!

  4. Well this is effin ridiculous. No-one needs an education on you must feed your dog for it to live. Give me a break. Get that poor dog out of their incapable, uncaring, neglectful hands. They aren’t feeding her, she has open sores and eye infection; so exactly what do they mean when they say the family is doing what they are supposed to. Geez I wanna kill idiots.

  5. oh, I have a quote that states my feelings on this well; “lord give me patience, because if you give me strength, I’m going to need bail money to go with it”. Cause I tell you, I have zero tolerance for these creepy animal abusers and sometimes wish I could take matters into my own hands.

  6. Yes either she has cancer or some serious debilitating disease or they are not feeding her come on people get her out of there!

  7. I really hope that this family really takes care of Estrella. I find it hard to believe that these people need to be educated on how to care for their dog. I really hope that they monitor Estrella to make sure they are taking care of her.

  8. It seems the decision is on a can’t be bothered basis. Needs following up to ensure the right care happens. So many issues on animal abuse. Should be in school education so no excuses.

  9. They need to take that dog out of there. Dogs have feelings and this dog does not wanna be with that family, he just can’t tell you. Them people don’t have any live for this poor baby. If they did this wouldn’t of happened!!! I just hope they don’t kill this dog. It would be you rescuers fault!!!! You people would be responsible for wat happens to this poor dog!!!!! Take him out of that home please!!!!!!!!! For the sake of the dog before you go and find him dead!!!!!!!!

  10. The POS owners wait until they get reported to do what’s best for Estrella? They shouldn’t own dogs if they’re clearly ignorant of not taking care of a family pet. They obviously thought they could get away with it.

  11. I’m trying to post a picture of my 10 year old white boxer boy to show what one should look like. And it’s not like Estrella. Let me adopt her!
