Update: Reunited with owner!

On Saturday, the Tuscaloosa Animal Shelter reached out to the public for help locating the owner of a dog who was found wearing a service dog vest. The shelter’s post on Facebook reads:

We had a dog brought in as a stray last night that was wearing a service dog vest. No microchip and no information whatsoever on the vest. The dog was found on the University of Alabama campus near Buffalo Phil’s.

The post has been shared over 800 times and dozens of people have commented on the post, but nobody seems to know who the dog belongs to. Some people have suggested that the vest may have been put on the dog in order to “smuggle” her into the dorms – the mystery of who she rightfully belongs to has not yet been solved.

Anyone with information about this dog can reach the shelter at 205-752-9101.

  1. You would think, if this dog is a service dog, that someone would be moving heaven and earth to find it. I think most service dogs are microchipped also. If someone is passing this poor dog off as a service dog, then they should be ashamed of themselves. I hope they get to the bottom of this and I hope if this is someones service dog, the owner is ok.

  2. I have this exact same harness, for a working harness with different patches. The “service dog” patches are attached by velcro & can be easily bought in pet stores. Beings the dog isn’t chipped, etc. I think someone just bought the vest & put those patches on it for whatever other motive they had.

    Hope the owner comes forward.
