Shelter is so full that dogs are being held in the kitchen

An animal shelter in Greenwood, South Carolina, is so full that they are temporarily holding dogs in the facility’s kitchen, bathroom, storage room and even on the sidewalk. The situation is so bad that the Humane Society of Greenwood, which manages the Greenwood County Animal Shelter, pleaded with area residents to think twice before considering bringing unwanted pets to the facility.

In a Facebook post which reads “please share!” the shelter wrote about the dismal situation that is happening right now:

Please explore all options before surrendering your pet to the shelter. Although pets can be adopted locally and transported to rescue groups, there are simply too many to manage. Animals are euthanized at the Greenwood Shelter.

To the individuals who plead for a no-kill shelter, the Humane Society issued a stern reminder:

We will have a “no-kill” shelter when we have a “no-kill” minded community. Your partnership is required.

Until pets are no longer considered disposable – and until people alter their pets, the sad situation will continue.

  1. Penny, you really summed it up with: “Until pets are no longer considered disposable – and until people alter their pets, the sad situation will continue.” I will NEVER understand how someone can dump a dog – a FAMILY MEMBER – and go on with their lives like it’s no big deal.

    • Et après les vacances revenir en chercher un autre. Jusqu’au prochaine vacances. Que de médiocrité chez (l’humain)

  2. Sounds like they could use a “flight to freedom”. Maybe someone could arrange for some of the pets to be transported to another area of the country where they stand a better chance for adoption. Just a thought…..

  3. As much as I hate kill shelter there are reasons for having them because of irresponsible owners who chose not to alter/spay their pets, surrendering/dumping and many of the strays left to fend for themselves.

  4. AND THREE GUESSES JUSTY WHAT THE ETHNIC GROUP that brings 94% of their pets to dispose of are!!!!!!! BINGO They would do that to their children too if they could get by with it!!!! this is generational !!!!! The same as lack of education, lack of work ethics, system survivors… these poor , poor animals didn’t deserve these scum bags to make a home for them…. NOT
