A nine-year-old friendly Chow Chow and Golden retriever mix named Buffy ended up at the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control on February 27, 2016 because his owner kept tripping over him.

“He was surrendered because his owner didn’t want him anymore and kept tripping over him,” read the sad introduction to Buffy’s tragic plight on Facebook for MCACC East Dogs, a social media page used to promote the rescue and adoption of shelter pets.

What does that mean when a dog’s owner “kept tripping over their dog”? Buffy has some trouble getting around and could use to lose some weight; the ideal home would be one to provide a healthy diet and low intensity exercise. Who wouldn’t enjoy a walk in the park with their new best friend? Buffy is already neutered and ready to go. Volunteers, who have met him, describe him as a “sweet old man” although Buffy does not get along with cats. On Tuesday, more soft blankets had been placed in his kennel cage because he was afraid of his kuranda bed.

Click here for Buffy’s PetHarbor listing. “My name is BUFFY. I am a neutered male, gold Chow Chow and Golden Retriever. The shelter staff think I am about 9 years old. I have been at the shelter since Feb 27, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call Maricopa County Animal Care & Control – East Valley Animal Care Center at (602) 506-7387. Ask for information about animal ID number A3898318. A Facebook page to follow Buffy’s plight can be found by clicking here.

  1. At his is so sad that this owners did not take care of Buffy, now he is unwanted ! Wake owner it will happen to you as you too get older and not able to move around ad freely as maybe you do now. Karma my friend . And let’s see how you will feel.

  2. Oh if I had a nickle for every time I trip over one of my dogs! I’m probably lucky I have killed myself, but my dogs aren’t going anyplace, I don’t care if I break a leg. Just another flimsy excuse to dump your elderly pet because you are tired of them. I hope Buffy finds a loving home, someone who won’t mind him being around to trip over!

  3. Il a peur de cet endroit, il y a trop de bruits. Il faut lui trouver une famille rapidement pour finir ces jours tranquillement. Ça me fend le coeur, pauvre loulou , tu avais des maîtres indignes de ton amour. ????????????

  4. One of my dogs, a senior at age 11, is CONSTANTLY underfoot. I’ve tried to keep him out of the kitchen when I’m cooking, to no avail. It’s no big deal – I just make sure I look down before I turn around and move. I hope Buffy can find someone who will help him lose weight.

    • Mine are always under foot. They just want to be near/with their mommy. I feel blessed. I would be LOST if they weren’t there.

  5. It’s sad that seniors are getting thrown away like this! Oddly enough it’s reminder of what happens to humans who get shipped off to nursing homes! Buffy deserves to be loved and he should be able to live out his golden years in peace! Senior dogs are great! They are already house broken they enjoy long walks and they live to lay in a beam of sunlight and nap!

  6. Now that’s a new excuse. What a POS owner. Probably was too lazy to take this lovely dog out for much needed walks.

  7. This a–hole owner and their piss poor excuse make me want to punch their face off – LOOK where your going you dumbass – I hope Buffy gets a new safe home with owners who know to step around him.
