On Friday night, a Washington family’s senior dog was let outside for a potty break and someone committed an evil act of cruelty which left the dog dead. According to KOMO News, Paul Hense’s 10-year-old poodle, “Mickey,” was let out into the fenced backyard, but he didn’t come back inside after a few minutes like he usually does.

Hense told KOMO, “I was 20 yards away in the house with the door cracked and I heard nothing.” Someone had stabbed Mickey all the way through his body and part of the skin along his back was gone. A veterinarian stated that it appeared to be intentional injuries from a person.

The fence in Hense’s backyard borders the Interurban Trail in Edmonds – Hense wonders if Mickey barked at someone, or if something more sinister is at play. He told KOMO, “If the dog was the target that’s bad enough, but what if the dog wasn’t the target? What if the house or the people in the house was the target? So that’s what I’m trying to find out.”

The local authorities are investigating the cruel situation.

  1. Police and all authorities must find whoever did this and why. People are not safe with someone or something doing this. Maybe gang related or someone who didn’t like the dogs barking possibly? Hope they find out who did this.

  2. This scenario seems to be replaying all over the country. You let you dog out in their own yard and some POS takes the opportunity to just murder them. Nothing is secure anymore. My heart goes out to Mr Hense for the loss of Mickey, whatever the motivation someone had to do such a heinous act, I hope the person/s responsible are found and dealt with harshly!

  3. My God, what is this world coming to that you can’t even leave your dog out to “go potty” there someone hiding in the bushes waiting to kill your dog?!?! You can’t even leave your dog outside for any length of time that you have to worry something BAD could happen to them even if you have a fenced in yard or they are on a cable so they don’t bother anyone and still, people aren’t happy they have to hurt or kill your dog? What is this world coming to???

  4. I hope they’re somehow able to find the bastard who did this.

I never allow my dogs outside if I’m not with them no matter what the weather is. Too many things can happen, and there are too many evil people out there.

  5. This is crazy. So many dogs are killed in their own backyard. Owners can not allow their dogs outside without supervision, there are too many sickos in this world. RIP Mickey.

  6. So Sorry for your loss. It’s a terrible thing that you can’t even let your poor dog out to go to the bathroom without anything happening. HORRIBLE!!!

  7. Sounds as if someone had it out for Mickey and his owners. Part of his skin missing on his back? Sounds like a trophy for this sick animal serial killer. RIP Mickey.

  8. I wonder why people don’t go outside with their dogs with so many bad things happening in the world now? Are they so lazy that they can’t get up off their butts to take their dog outside and stay with them? RIP Mickey, I’m sorry you had to pay the ultimate price.

  9. Heartbreaking breaking and disgusting. I hope the perp/s receive the death penalty for this barbaric act on an innocent defenseless little dog. The poor little dog and my condolences to the family. This is how serial killers start !

  10. This is just damn ridiculous, an animal isn’t even safe in their own back yard. Such evil , nut jobs walking the earth. So sorry to the owners, and R.I.P. to the senior 🙁
